Once I lock the door and the lock disengages. In other words, the door is secured and the dial outside the house spins freely. I do not need to enter a code to get the door to re-engage. I just hit the schlage button and the door engages. How do I fix this so the code is needed to re-engage the mechanism?

It sounds like its a defect in the mechinasm of the lock Did it ever work and before and how old is it I can tell you this SCHLAGE is a vary low grade look as compared to say a baldwin look set it cost 60% less and is mass produced So not knowing the age and knowing the quailty level i would say its not worth it to try to fix this If you have a warrenty thats still valid for it mabey but it will end up costing more then the thing is worth to repair if it can even be done sorry im just telling the truth good luck

When you take the motor section out of the box and spin it, should it make noise like rubbing? or should it spin freely?

Does the motor have a bell housing on it, in other words does it have a cover over the fan? The fan could be striking the cover, loosen the screws on the housing and adjust as needed. Should only be about 3 no more than 4 screws.

To use the system, open each rear door, use a flat blade
screwdriver (or valet key) and rotate the dial counter-clockwise to engage the lock and clockwise to disengage
the child protection locks. When the system on a door is
engaged, that door can only be opened by using the
outside door handle even if the inside door lock is in the

Our schlage lock with thumbturn on inside and keyed on outside. When unlock inside, knob turns freely as if it is really unlocked but if I close door, I get locked out. Please help

Be sure the outside knob is unlocked before closing the door.
Schlage locks do not lock the inside knob or lever. After releasing the turn button, also turn the inside lever or knob, then check the outside knob.
What model of lock is this?

FOR YOUR SECURITY THE

WHEN THE LOCK IS INSTALLED.
The door must be open.
On models with the passage feature, make
sure the passage feature is disengaged: turn
knob or key should be in vertical
position (A) (see figure 14-1).
1. Insert the DF-59 control key (B) into the
combination change plug assembly (C)
and unscrew the cylinder by turning the
key counterclockwise. Remove the combination
change plug to gain access to
the combination change sleeve (see figure
14-1).
2. Turn the outside knob once clockwise
(all the way, until it stops) then release.
The latch should not retract (see figure
14-4).
3. Enter the existing combination. On new
installations, use the factory-set combination:
depress 2 and 4 simultaneously,
(release), then 3 (release). You should
feel a slight click as each button is
depressed.
4. Insert the spanner wrench as shown in
Figure 14-2 to engage the combination
change sleeve (A). Gently turn the
spanner wrench clockwise to the stop
position (a slight click should be felt),
then turn the spanner wrench counterclockwise
