Charge battery, start engine, then touch the small terminal on the altenator momentarily with a jumper lead from the hot terminal on the alt. Charge light should go out and batery should be getting a charge. why it does that i still can't figure it out, but it works!

My sons1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the gauges light on and would not start like battery was dead. Had it jump started and it started. When he put in park it stalled jumped again and worked.

Sounds like a charging system problem and the alternator may not be working. The gauge light will come on if the charging gauge is showing low so you will look at the gauges. Have the battery and charging system tested

Mazda 626 1999 with electrical problems. Replaced alternator, battery checked out, electrical quits while driving.

When you say everything goes dead are we talking all lights, radio, wipers? If so, main power or ground cables bad or fusible link. If just engine, check coil, ignition module, crank/cam position sensor.

Hi, my alternator is not charging the battery, I have a 2009 Kia Carnival. The belt operating the alternator is not broken. My battery is completely drained (flat). When I turn ignition on, all lights

I would be getting the alternator checked out first, faulty relays are not something I have had problems with in the past, so I would go with the alternator, unless your battery is duff, don't forget a battery can be fine the last time you use the car and then it just goes dead. I would suggest you try a charged battery first and check when the engine is running that the ignition lights are all out, if not then change the alternator

Battery goes dead ,new battery, altenator working

If it goes dead, it has to do with the charging system. Make sure the terminals are cleaned and they have good contact. You may need to redo them or may need new ones. Make sure all wires are correctly on, starter and alternator. Make sure the wires to both are not damaged. Make sure all wires are in the right spot. Make sure nothing is being left on to drain the battery. Make sure your alternator is good Steve. You can start the car and take off your hot side terminal. If the car dies instantly, change the alternator. If it stays on, you have a bad connection in the charging system more then likely. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Changed battery and alternator i week ago the battery gauge plays between 14 or less and when we turn the car off the whole car goes dead and wont start then when we wait a while it starts

You may have a bad battery or alternator, its best if you take in to the Auto parts store where you bought the Battery and Alternator to have them check it on your vehicle, they have tools to test the charging power from the alternator as well as to check the battery condition. Just because their new does not mean they are always going to work.

I have a 1990 Honda CRX Si. When i drive the car with the headlights on, my gauge cluster goes crazy. Both left and right signal turn on and the hi-beam light turns on. My gas gauge goes to the very top...

Your alternator may be on it's last leg. Start the car and while the car is running, remove the negative cable from the battery. If the car dies, the alternator is no longer working. If you have a volt meter, put the meter on the battery positive and negative. You should read 13.8 - 14.2. If it doesn't show this, and reads under that, your alternator is not charging enough to keep your accessories going.

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).
