Don't get discouraged. Most new users of bread machines make some mistakes in the beginning.
Some things to remember: Don't lift the lid and peak inside... you'll let heat out especially during baking....recommend rapid rise yeast not active dry....I use half the salt recipes call for especially with whole wheat. Recommend you try some recipes first with unbleached bread flour, basic white bread recipes so you'll get a good rise and get your confidence up and then try whole wheat.
Maybe some of these tips will help ....

Graetz Bread Maker Models VBM109

Unfortunately, I was unable to find an official website for Graetz bread makers or a downloadable instruction manual for the VBM109 model. However, here are some general instructions on how to use a bread maker that may be helpful:
  1. Add the ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the bread pan first, followed by the wet ingredients, and then the yeast. Make sure to follow the recipe and measurement guidelines carefully.
  2. Select the program: Choose the desired program for your bread maker. Each program has a different setting for kneading, rising, and baking. The VBM109 model may have basic, whole wheat, French, sweet, or gluten-free programs, among others.
  3. Set the timer: Set the timer according to the recipe or your preferences. This allows you to delay the start of the baking process, so that you can wake up to freshly baked bread or have it ready for dinner.
  4. Start the machine: Press the start button to begin the bread-making process. The bread maker will mix, knead, rise, and bake the bread according to the selected program.
  5. Remove the bread: When the bread maker beeps or signals that the bread is done, use oven mitts to carefully remove the hot bread pan from the machine. Let the bread cool down for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
It's important to note that different bread makers may have slightly different instructions and settings, so be sure to consult the manual if you have one. You can also try searching for generic bread maker recipes online or experimenting with your own ingredients and measurements. Good luck!

I have an 'All-In-One B1561 breadmaker which is producing small and hard loaves. Any recipe with a whole wheat flour is unedible, being so small, compact and hard. Is the breadmaker (about 8yrs old)...

If you use whole wheat flour without any bread flour (bread flour is marked on the bag) you will have small dense loaves unless you add wheat gluten. The product "vital wheat gluten" is for sale in most grocery stores in the baking aisle. If you don't want to add gluten then you will need to use at least 50% bread flour and 50% whole wheat flour to get a larger loaf. Those are the 2 choices to make large loaves using a lot of whole wheat flour.

Hi, the recipe says bake at "White" the model

Use program #1 if you are using a recipe that contains regular bread flour. If using a combination of bread flour and whole wheat flour and whole wheat is 50% or more of the flour mix use the whole wheat program. Your manual will tell you which program # is the whole wheat one.

What does an E05 message mean? Purchased summer

All I can tell you is that my Toastmaster instruction book contains the same types of warnings.
E-01, just means the oven is too hot, but warnings E-02 , 03,04,05 and 08 all say you should unplug the machine and call the manufacturer....Sorry for the bad news....

My White Westinghouse Automatic Bread Machine sits for over 1/2 hour before it starts to combine the ingredients by turning. Then it turns for over 1/2 an hour and does not seem to stop to let the bread...

Hi fellow bread maker! Can you tell me which program you are using. Basic, whole wheat, sweet bread etc.?? Based on what you describe I think you may be choosing the whole wheat cycle because the stages you describe are almost exactly what my Toastmster does if I choose the whole wheat cycle. Hope this helps....

BREAD OVERBAKES

Take a look at your manual. There are a couple pages with charts showing the kneading and bake times for the machine. Try setting a cycle for a smaller loaf. I have a similar problem and had been setting a timer to take my loaf out early.

Get setting to whole wheat bread

Try using the white setting and it should be OK. Using part white and part wheat also works well, I have found.

TR440 Breadman won't begin kneading once "start" button is pushed

Hi Mindy.......it takes 30 minutes to PREHEAT this silly machine for wheat bread. I thought I did something wrong, too........I stopped it twice after it preheated for about 15 minutes. I did not want to waste anything so I let it stay in the machine.....I just went to check the machine and it started after 30 minutes of preheating.

I wish they would mention this in the book!!!

Dense bread

Try a different recipe--highly recommend The Bread Machine Cookbook by Melissa Clark it may be out of print, but can order from Amazon for less than $3.00. Also, if your bread is too dense, you can try adding a little wheat gluten flour, found in the baking section at most large grocery stores, including Walmart. However, a little of this goes a long way! I never need to add to my white bread, but it is wonderful for whole grain breads as it greatly improves the texture. Wheat gluten is made from the inside of the wheat kernel and is very high in protein, also helps your bread rise, so try starting with one teaspoon for your white bread and use up to one fourth of a cup with whole grain breads. A little of this stuff goes a long way!!!! Do read the introduction in the little paperback cookbook I recommended, it really helped me to understand the hows and whys of breadbaking, and I had to throw away many a loaf, before I read this section of the cookbook.
