Hi, well whats happening is that the data on that "Chip", for whatever reason true or false is being "Seen" by the GPS as having/causing some "illegal" computer function, this may indicate that this "Chip" is faulty, or that it contains data that is "illegal"? Either way i fear the only "Fix" is replacement of that "Chip".
i imagine that this "Chip" has maps etc on it, in any event, another must be tried to test the GPS, if another "Chip" has the same results then the GPS is faulty and will need to be repaired, if not, then it was the "Chip" all the time.
Try to press and hold the power button for 15 sec when the unit is off
then when the gps on check if it will go thru but if it is not try to press the reset button for 10 sec and then release.
if still not work try to charge the battery sometimes the cause of the freezing of the screen is when the unit is low in battery and also check the website if there is a new firmware for your gps if there is download it.
It all started June 13th some type of bug with the software. Omnitech has posted a fix for the 16878. Here is the link describing the problem and the fix.
