I woke up to find my controller melted and the buttons inoperable. You can see the green from the circuit board showing. Others are online with the identical situation.
Your remote control need cleaning. In most cases this will make it right. If it doesn't, you have to buy a new remote control for your device. If you wish to get details about how to clean a remote control, check this link, pull up older posts there.
Probably not required unless an older home or low slope roof, but very easy and not expensive to do when re-roofing. When attics were poorly insulated snow would melt above the attic from heat lost from the house, then refreeze at the eave causing an ice dam. More melting water hits the ice dam then back up under roof shingles and felt paper.
It is not required, but your specific conditions could warranty it. If your roofer is recommending it I would do it.
The problem is either from the remote or the television, there has been so much heat on the control panel of the television, so it has melted some lead off a part of the control panel and bridging it to another part, so it is increasing both the volume and changing the channel in an upward direction.
The solution is to change the control panel of the television or correct it by using a soldering iron to melt off the lead from where leads meet.
If you remove the battery from the remote and it still does the same, then it is confirmed that it is the televisions control panel. But if after removing the battery it stops scrolling up, then the problem is from the remote and the solution is for you to replace the remote with a new one.
Have you tried calling the manufacturer at 800-332-2119 to get a new remote yet? If they don't have one, then a supplier should and I can get a number or website for you but Mitsubishi should have one.
Maybe the batteries were inserted wrong way ? Sorry to tell you this but once you have taken the smoke out of the electronic device it is hard to put it back in.
Cheapest way is to purchase a universal remote control in this case.
You could open the remote and try to repair it but as it smoked it probably needs some parts.
