HP ipaq with navtec gps software and sd card fails

I have a hp ipaq H5550 that has been running the Navtec gps software without problems for past years. I have two sd memory chips that hold the maps, one a 256mb and the other a 1gb card. All was running fine then out of the blue when I try to launch the navtec gps program and click on the "I accept" label to accept terms and start the map program, the ipaq hangs and will not respond to anything other than a re-boot. I have tried both sd cards and also did a hard reboot and the ipaq, then resyncing it and reloading the navtec gps program - same problem. I noticed that someone else had reported the same problem to you guys, but did not see what the solution was, if any.

This problem was finally resolved as a corrupted map file on the SD memory card in the hp ipaq 5550. Solution was to reformat the memory card using fat32 memory format. I used a SD memory card slot on my laptop and right click the drive letter and select format to format the memory card. After that, I reloaded map files to the memory card and all was OK. Note that previously I had loaded map files on the memory card successfully but that was not good enough. A reformat of the memory card was apparently needed.

I had also previously tried a hard full reset of the ipaq by pressing and holding the lower two buttons (calendar and itask) while holding in the reset button with the stylus for 5 seconds and resynced my contacts and reloaded the gps software, but this was to no avail. Try the re-format.

What it take to upgrade maps in my iway250c

You have to go to Navtec's website. They make the maps, Lowrance doesn't. Yes, you'll have to pay. I paid $90 for the 2008 Navtec US maps. Make sure you buy maps that are on a version 1 SD card, or download them to your computer online. Iway250 doesn't support SD ver. 2 or any SD cards 4GB or bigger.

Data card lost all it data

I don't know how it would have "lost" all it's data. More likely is all of it's data was "erased" or "deleted".

Take the card out and put it into your computer or someone else's Iway and see if the file folder is still on there. It probably is. You might just need to reset your Iway. You also might try downloading the newest software update (ver 1.3) from the Lowrance website. http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Automotive/iWAY-250C/Downloads/iWAY-250C-Software-Update/
This is not the maps, it's just the software for the unit itself.

If the map file actually isn't on the card anymore, then ask yourself:
Did you make a data card backup to your computer like the user manual suggests?
If yes, put the backup file onto a 2GB SD card and stick it back into your Iway.
If no, then you're out about $90 to buy a new set of maps. They come from Navtec, you can't buy them from Lowrance because Lowrance doesn't produce them.
Good luck

IPAQ 6515 doesn't recognize new HP 8Gig SD card when inserted. I reset but nothing happened. Any idea what the problem might be.

I am sorry?

You want me to give you my solution for nothing and want to charge me $9.95 for it.

I could not find any posted solutions when I checked your site.

Lying ipaq H5550!

It's a problem with either the memory board or the button board. With my h5550, the bottom buttons started to stop working and eventualy the PPC stoped charging all together. You can find parts for it online. If all the buttons are working fine, then it's most likely the motherboard. Otherwise it should be the button board.

PocketDVD problems

I'm a little confused. Most of the encoding programs I know like Pocket DVD Studio or Pocket DVD Wizard are programs you run on your PC (not the iPaq) in order to create a file which you eventually download to your card and play with Betaplayer.

IPAQ Backup on SD

Sounds like a potential problem with the SD card -- I'd try reformating the SD card and do another backup... If you still have the error, try another card...
