I have Simpletech SimpleDrive Model 90000-40479-002. I am visiting Korea now, that uses 220V instead. I plugged it on and it seems like the adapter got burnt. Is there any adapter I could use in Korea for the drive please?

SOURCE: SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 320GB Power up problem

It could be that it's internal power supply burnt out,
in which case the drive itself could still be fine.

Try opening up the external case, and removing the drive.
Once you do, plug it in to your computer directly using its SATA cables, and see if that works.

Hope I helped,
Tom

SOURCE: General questions regarding simpletech simpledrive.

You probably have to initialize and/or format the drive.

Right click my computer and click Manage (assuming windows xp)

Go to disk management

See if you see the drive listed somewhere there. Should show approximately 950gb disk drive

If so right click that drive listed and choose either format, or create partition.

If you create the parttiion, make sure to click quick format, otherwise it will take a long time.

Hope this helps

HP windows 8 does not recognize simpleteck hard drive

I purchased a SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Onyx for my Vista machine and all was well. Then I purchased a Windows 7 machine. It would not recognize the devise. I contacted SimpleTech only to be told my model cannot be used on machines newer that the Vista. Recently I purchased a Windows 8.1, did a little research, plugged the SimpleTech into the 8.1 and reformatted it using the Windows feature. The SimpleTech is alive and well on my 8.1.

Simpletech 96300-40001-001 bought in the US, can it be used abroad where current is 240V?

Yes. You can use it while abroad. This equipment do not use any external power source. It draws its power through the USB cord. which is standard 5 volts. However, other equipments, that is connected directly to AC must be working on 230V. For example, your are going on a trip. You take your lap top and this SimpleDrive Portable Hard Drive with you. You can connect the Portable Hard Drive to the laptop without worry. But you should check the power supply to the laptop whether it says 100V-240V. Then you are all set. Almost all laptop power supplies are equipped to work with both 110 and 220V range. Other wise you will have to get a travel adapter, which converts the 220V to 110V.
