Question about HP LaserJet 2550n Printer

6 Answers

My HP 2550L prints yellow only. It will print black text if I use TextEdit (I have a Mac). I have re-installed the software and I have tried installing the software on a PC both from a CD and from the internet but I get an error message saying the software has not installed correctly. I cannot get any information relating to the printer to appear on the screen other than the print queue.

To be honest, that solution was stupid. I am not an engineer and wouldn't even know where to begin to remove the top cover let alone realign the gears.

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2010

This solution was about as useless as the previous solution because it just tells you what to do but not how to do it. How am I supposed to know where the ink cradle is? It says the cartridge is under the ink cradle well I have 4 cartridges and they rotate and are above everything when they are in a position to be removed. I don't think this 'expert' knows what he is talking about.

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2010

This solution was as useless as the rest of them. There is no 'black' button on this printer only a colour, and OK and a cancel button. There are no white gears inside, only black ones and when pressing the three buttons and turning off then, as instructed, turning on, the printer just cycles. It doesn't turn itself off, it doesn't go into maintenance mode and, anyway, there is nothing to see to obtain prompts.

I was asked for my Mac operating system - it is 10.5.8. This printer has worked with older Mac's and earlier operating systems. It has worked with this Mac foe about a year.

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2010

The printer has worked on three different Mac's for five years. I have re-installed the software to no avail. I have also installed Windows software on a PC but with the same result.

Check if your installer that you installed is composed of files which is compatible to macintosh. Sometimes , the error is on the installer itself because most of the installer files is on windows operating systems. Try to uninstall/reinstall the applications and try it again to print and check if it prints only yellow.

Hello

look to the left side of the print head carriage, there is a white plastic gear that drives the ink pump. Check it first to see if its firmly in place, or looks damaged.

Turn the Printer On.

Hold down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons with your left hand and hold them down.

Use your other hand to turn the printer off. Keep your left hand on the buttons until the printer is off.

Turn the printer on, wait for it to turn itself off. Have paper in the feed tray.

Turn it on again and it will enter the maintenance mode. Follow any prompts during the maintenance mode, if any.

You should be back in business now. If not, try the routine again, sometimes you have to run it more than once.

Hello Lightwave654, hi, as you posted here, you are describing 2 problems, the yellow printing and the improper installation of the driver for your printer, lets start first with the yellow thing, well you need to clean your ink cradle where the inks are housed, use you common sense, remove the ink cartridge under the ink cradle where the ink passes lies dried ink, use a soft cloth with warm water to soften it there are no quick fix here. don't ask me how to do it step by step, give 30 minutes for cleaning. until almost all inks are out. for the driver thing, you can ask your dealer for a copy of the CD or visit the manufacturers website for the software. make sure that your PC or MAC has no virus or registry problems, reinstall the original software driver disk. IF still no success. reinstall you MAC OS.

Hello.

There is a driver (software for hardware) available b oth for Windows-based and Mac operating systems. Here's the link for all. Choose your system and download and install:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=388399&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=388394&lang=en&cc=us

Your problem may lie with the carousel. In order to determine if the problem lies with the carousel brake, remove the top cover completely, bypass the 2 microswitches at the top (left and right) and print out a test page. Looking down at the imaging drum you will see that the carousel rotates, presses the first toner cartridge against the drum, pulls away from the drum, rotates to the next toner cartridge, presses the next toner cartridge against the drum, etc.

If a problem, check to see if the carousel is out of alignment.on the right edge of the carousel along the black gear teeth at the right side where the developing rotary motor gears (a few smaller white gears) mesh with it.just adjacent to the K for the black slot and on the inside of the carousel. Next to its gear there is a black line that sticks out a bit towards the inside, and on the inside of the white gear that meshes with it,there are two white lines that stick out a bit.when the carousel turns and the carousel gear(big black gear teeth that are part of the carousel),and the white gear above it come together, the black line should be in between the two white lines when they meet. You would have to get the carousel brake to release and be able to move it freely to be able to watch the gears as they rotate and see if the lines line up where they meet.if it is out of alignment, you would have to take the rotary motor out then rotate the plastic pieces on the swing shaft gears up to a vertical position to be able to move and line up the gears.

Hope this helps.

Sorry if it's too complicated a procedure.

If you haven't tried already, it may be as simple as removing and reinserting the transfer drum assembly. Do
this with the power off and then power back on and see if it works.

I don't have a solution but the exact same thing
happened to me. Did you ever figure it out?
Did you figure out how to get just the black to print.
It amazing how many people have the same complaint.
I wonder if it has anything to do with where you
bought your cartridges? do you remember where?
If so, would you care to share that information?

Theblack print cartridge is empty or missing. The black-print-cartridgelight is blinking, and then printer stops printing. An error 40208 iswritten to the event log. The printer cannot detect the print cartridgecorrectly. Action
  1. Reinsert or replace the print cartridge.
  2. If the print-cartridge light is still blinking but the Attention light is not on, turn the printer off, and then back on.
  3. If the problem continues, contact HP Customer Care at http://www.hp.com/support/clj2550 or see the flyer that came in the printer box for other contact information.

HP color laser 2550L prints only in yellow

Hi Mmgrafde,

Press the Go and Rotate Carousel buttons simultaneously. This will calibrate the printer. See if this works.

Otherwise....Remove all cartridges and drum. Switch off printer. Close the lid. Switch on printer and wait until any churning stops. Insert the drum and close the lid. Wait until any churning stops. Put in one cartridge at a time, closing the lid and wait till it stops churning each time. With the last cartridge put in, it will churning longer (calibrating). Try to print from your computer.

It could also be that the toner could actually have run out for the other colors.

Gazzards, First, what application are you printing from? Some applications (TextEdit for example) modify the size of the print job (scaling) to fit the size if the window on the screen. So, if I open TextEdit and type "THIS IS MY TEXT" and print it, it's fair. If I resize the window to full screen by clicking the green circle and reprint (with no other changes) the text comes out minute. If you've only tested one application printing, try another. Another bit of printing information in Mac OS X: You can manage printers in a different way using your browser and pointing to this URL: http://localhost:631/printers/ I use this to print a test page for printers, and it's a good test for your situation because it does not involve the print dialog settings. Just find the printer you use and click the "Print Test Page" button next to it. Does it come out the correct size? Please let me know if this helps.
