It means turn it off and on again, but this probably won't help. You get this message with a lens error, problem with focussing/zooming or whatever. Usually means there is grit in the mechanism or it has been damaged by a knock.

Im pressing the on/off button and im hearing a beeping noise but the lens is not coming out, on the sceen it says lens error restart but i dont know how to restart it...

This is a typical lens error message, but turning off and on the camera will not fix anything unfortunately.

If the lens is stuck at an angle like the leaning tower of Pisa, then you can try to "snap" it back towards the middle to straighten it out. This is done at your own risk. Hold onto the larger ring of the lens, the one closer to the body of the camera and place the round edge of the outer section of the lens against the edge of a table or counter. Now apply pressure on the lens, pressing it back towards the middle. Hopefully the guide pin that is out of its track will pop back in and everything will work properly again!

If the lens is not at an angle, it needs to be replaced, that's the easiest solution because trying to rebuild one of these lenses is very difficult. I believe we can install a refurbished lens and ship the camera back for roughly $80 including the part, installation and return shipping.

When I start the camera, the screen says lens error, restart camera. I resart and the same thing happens over and over. The lense will not open at all.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

The camera says "Lens Error, Restart Camera" ,it will not resart. I tried new batteries, blowing around the lens, I've tried using the USB cable to turn it on, nothing is working.

Hi,

Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended. If the camera is still under warranty, before trying any of these, please please first contact your camera's maker to see if they'll cover the repair, or to determine how much they'll charge for the repair. Who knows, you might get lucky. But if they quote you a number that's higher than the value of your camera, you may want to consider the following methods.

Place the camera flat on its back on a table, pointed at the ceiling. Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time press the power-on button. The idea is that the camera will try to auto focus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins in their slots. Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in “no heat” setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one).

Thank you!

LENS ERROR, RESTART CAMERA...

CANON IXUS 561
Lens sometimes does not extend and error message 'lens error restart camera' appears when camera is turned on. This does not work without several tries and much button pressing. Problem is not caused by finger(s) in front of lens barrel.

How do you fix 'lens error restart camera' I put it in my bookbag. I guess i threw my bookbag around and now i have this "lens error, restart camera." The lens froze halfway and it's staying that way....

It sounds like. You really need to have some one take it apart and clean the sand out of it. The camera will make those noises when the sand gets between the gears of the lens assembly and they cant connect correctly.

ou could try helping the lens go back in GENTLY. But thats risky and you could ruin a lens that would work just fine if it where cleaned out.

let me know which model and brand you have and I could tell you better whether or not you should try anything your self.

goodluck,
