I discovered a weird issue when fixing mine. Attached to the door to the document feeder is a plastic widget that hangs down. When there is no paper in the feeder, the arms rest inside two holes in the bed of the document feeder, and when you put paper in the feeder, it pushes these arms out of the hold. There is a stop that keeps this widget from swinging too far forward. What had happened with my printer was that this widget was on the other side of that stop. (Someone must have taken it out and put it back in wrong, or knocked it past the stop somehow.) It was rather easy to pry apart the ridges in the door to remove this widget, and rotate it past the stop again. Be careful, though, as there is a thin little spring wrapped around one of the posts. One end of the spring goes through a hole in the support ridge, and the other end goes into a slot in the widget. Because of this spring, the widget only goes in one way. If you have the widget on the correct side of the stop, the widget should lift up and away from the paper when you insert the paper. When it is on the wrong side of the stop, it lifts up and rotates toward the paper. Thing is, when it rotates toward the paper, it still allows paper to be inserted and it still scans. Hope this helps some of you.
NOTE:
The ADF does not accept photo paper.
NOTE:
Do not load more than 25 pages in the document feeder tray. Larger stacks of paper can lead to pick problems.

Dust or paper residue on the rollers or separator pad inside the ADF can cause paper feed issues.
