I am no expert at all but I managed to fix my son's computer by choosing the F10 key for rebooting the notebook. So pleased I can tell you! Select F10 and select boot options. For some reason the computer was trying to start up using the Optical Device Drive first and the Notebook Hard drive second. Once I changed them by using the Enter key to Notebook Harddrive first and Optical Hardrive second, it worked!!!! Save the changes by following the menu and pressing F10 to exit. The computer started back up as normal and went on to XP, etc, etc.
hope this helps
