SOURCE: Fire from top of Microwave

It's not a dangerous or diffcult job for a do-it-yourselfer.

That would be the waveguide cover (also called the stirrer fan cover), and it would need to be replaced to prevent future damage to the magnetron.

Check your model number sticker to get the full model number with suffix and the manufacturer number (PACO1860AB0 for example).

Then you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

Good luck and good cooking!

SOURCE: Ceiling plate cover has small hole; otherwise works fine.

Since your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

It is part # PCOVPA180WRP0 (copy & paste) and you can
order it from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

In some cases the part is held in place with a rivet. Other times it just slides out of the slot.

Is my microwave mica plate good?

The black marks are burnt debris caused by splashing inside the oven. (Cling film usually stops this).
The waveguide cover, refered to as mica, has nothing to do with the actions of the magnetron, it is there to stop particles of food from entering the waveguide.

Burned dime sized hole thru inlet cover attached to ceiling of microwave. Microwave still works fine warming food. No arcs. Chew cover inlet not available. Can I plug hole with mica or silicone?

You may be able to get another mica sheet from a different brand or model and cut it to suit. They are called wave guide covers. I wouldn't recommend using silicone. These usually burn through if food has splattered on to it and eventually, it will burn a hole through the mica. Its common for them to arc around the place where they have burnt.

Massive sparking and noisy when switched on to heat

Hi,
There are 2 things that cause the massive sparking:
1. you placed inside the microwave oven a metal plate or one with silvery or golden drawings;
2. the mica sheet that covers the magnetron window is compromised (has holes, it is cracked) or it is covered with burnt (carbonised) food.
You have to carefully inspect the mica sheet and wash or replace it, if necessary. Hope that helps.

Dan

so take the top off find the fuse and replace it and check the mains supply fuse on the cord plug

good luck be safe and use the right type of fuse

I get an occasional spark when microwave is in use

Presuming that you have iliminated the possibility of any metal objects that are not meant to be in the machine being in there (and this includes dishes and other items with silver or gold leaf on them, which WILL spark and burn!) then take a look inside the oven its self. You will find a waveguide cover. It is usually a strange flakey silvery plastic/card like material called Mica and is usually on the same side of the microwave wall as the control panel (So if the picture on this thread is accurate, I will guess the Mica cover is on the right hand wall inside as you look at the machine from the front) . Over time, the magnatron (the thing that creates the microwave energy) will often burn a hole through the mika, or cause a dark brown or black burn mark in it. If this cover is even slightly damaged then it may well cause sparking inside the machine. These covers are designed to be removed and you can buy replacements for them from electrical stores.

My Microwave, Kenmore 721.62464201, is arcing from the upper right side. Now there's a hole in the side plate called the canopy. Do I need to replace just the canopy or is there something bigger wrong? ...

Just replace the canopy. This is a common problem with the layered mica canopies. Moisture gets in between the layers, the microwaves arc across the moisture and burn holes and bubbles in the canopy. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Husband was using it last night (jenn-air jmc700)it's making a rough sound, there is a big brown kinda burn mark that extends from that small little piece on the right side that looks like it encloses...

It's arcing due to the food being attached to the mica plate. It needs to be serviced by an authorized technician. Don't use it or you can break the microwave valve.

Metallic-like cardboard insert inside microwave is crumbling???

That piece is called the waveguide cover. Emerson calls it a spatter shield. Behind it is the hole where the microwaves enter the oven. Its job is to prevent food spatters from getting into the microwave source, and it's not a good idea to run the oven without it.

The cover is usually held in place by a plastic rivet that pulls out. I couldn't find the part number for the cover used in your model. But here is a link to a parts place that has several covers available:

http://www.a-1catalog.com/wavandstirco.html

If one of the covers shown looks like yours you can order it. Another possibility is to contact Emerson at 800-695-0098. This is the number they give to locate authorized servicers near you, and you might be able to order a replacement cover through them.

Hope this has helped. If so, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thanks for asking here!
