I cannot format DVD-RW

I have Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-832S; it works fine on CD-RW but not DVD-RW. DVD-RW shows File System CDUDFRW 4.37GB under XP Windows Explorer. I cannot drag and drop to DVD-RW. I cannot format DVD-RW; get write error [03/0c/00]. I also get 'disk not recognized, may not be formatted'. What to do?

I had to download the latest firmware (rev. VS0M) for Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-832S. This fixed the problem.

Lite on DVDRW LDW-451S will not burn or recognise any dvd /cd media? Windows XP says device is working well. Any Ideas

Hi,

Here are some steps that can help you isolate the issue.

To check the functionality of your Drive try to boot outside windows, like booting to Windows Operating system, if this works then your Optical drive is working, if not then you have to replace it.
If it is booting up, try deleting the upper and lower filters, click on start, run, type regedit then ok. click on the [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class then click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, then delete the upper and lower filter. then restart your computer. Also you can try different CD as sometimes optical drive are sensitive to the disc.

I hope this will be able to help you.

Thank you for choosing Fixya.

LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW 1633S ceased working correctly

Try this:- Please go ahead and click on start > in start search type in device manager {(in vista ) in case of xp right click on my computer > properties > hardware > devicemanager}.
In device manager click on the + sign beside the cd- dvd > then right click on the driver and uninstall it .
Then in start search type in regedit {(for vista ) for xp in run type in regedit}
Look for some thing like
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then SYSTEM
Then CURRENT CONTROL SET
Then CONTROL
Then CLASS
Then find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
The whole thing looks like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then on the right hand side look for something like upper and lower filters and delete the upper and lower filters....
Restart the notebook . It will help

I have a lite-on dvdrw sohw-1633s that windows xp will not detect the driver. it shows cdrom.sys driver how do i fix this? I have burned dvd's befor and don't know how or why the driver changed.

Windows xp does not have a native driver for DVD writers. It always detects them as cdrom.sys. You need to use either the writing software supplied with the drive or Nero or equivalent

unless your pc is old, it's a bit drastic buying a new one when you can replace the dvd drive itself fo about 25 quid
