Question about Samsung HLN4365W 43" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I have HLN4365W. When I turn it on, the screen shows lines and the picture is not clear. However, after 30 minutes or so, the picture becomes clear. What might be the issue with the first 30 minutes.

These are light grey lines running across the screen. The lines flicker for 30 minutes or so before disappearing altogether.

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2010

OK. Why does the screen work fine after 30 minutes if the capacitors are faulty?

What kind of DMD board and where do I get this DMD board? Can I replace them myself...I mean what kind of expertise is needed to replace a DMD board on such a TV?

Component level repair means replacing the faulty capacitors? Is that right? Do I have to buy these capacitors? Would appreciate if you could send me a link to buy these capacitors?
As for soldering, I have seen others do it, should not be so hard to do.

What do the lines look like? Are they colored lines or just plain white lines?

You will need to replace the faulty capacitors on the DMD board.Since these are not the the usual electrolytic caps that bulge at the top you are gonna have to test them with a multimeter with capacitance measurements and replace as necessary. Otherwise you can simply replace the DMD board.

Good question regarding the capacitors. You see when these cpacitors are malfunctioning their rapid charge discharge cycle is disrupted and it takes longer than usual to reach their optimum capacitance value. That is the reason the lines disappear after a while. DMD means Digital Micro Mirroring device. It is board that looks like this. And yes you can replace it yourself if you have the service manual. I will see if I have one in my collection. I will also look for the part and get you the link so that you can buy it online

Woah! It costs around 500$. I would we try a component level repair if you know how to solder?

Yes its not that hard. But you should practice it on something else first. The values of the capacitors should be inscribed on them like 100uF 200V. If you can get me these values, I can tell you where to find them. Oh. And you might want the disassembly instructions to get to it. So I am uploading the service manual right now and will get you the link as soon as its done.

Here's the service manual. Read the disassembly section of the optical block unit. If you get stuck somewhere then let me know and I will help you out

My Toshiba 50H82 television takes about 30 minutes to clear up and during that process, it shakes. It becomes clear but still has wavy lines at the top of the screen which is about 6 inches.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

this will continue to degrade, almost any failure that can be affected or temporarily cleared up by hitting the set is caused by bad solder joints.

A good shop should be able to find and fix the bad solder connections for probably a little under $100
if you bring it to them and pick it up.

it sounds like the focus block or flyback is bad.sometimes you can put nail polish on the adjustments controls to make it stay.usually they are marked from the factory with white marks check and see if they are aligned.but be sure somebody with tech-skills help you.the flyback usually has a screen & focus control.(the big red wire to the tubes or block)
