Hi,
Press Info/ Display button on tv remote once, on-screen display will disappear.
Only Sony tv remote will work for that, no other universal remote will close on-screen display.
Thanks.

The fault is with its main power supply regulator section itself. One or more voltage rail is missing. Your TV need a through checkup. Seek tech assistance.

I own a 5 year old 40" sony bravia lcd tv, When

This sounds like what I managed to do to my screen, even though I knew better. Is there any chance you layed the screen face down at some time?

Even though you can still watch it OK, you probably have hairline fractures in the screen face (NOT the screen itself- be thankful for that- the cracks are in the screen coating). LCD screens are a very thin glass laminate with a thin protective glass-like coating. When they are laid flat (like I did to connect cables) if the screen bears any weight, microcracks develop on the front of the screen.

I am sorry to say that the effect is permanent.

Tuning Sony KDL 32U3000 for Sky TV

Hi Max,
I an not familiar with Sky TV, I assume it a Cable or Satilite Service.
Here are a few things to check.
  1. Press the INPUT button on the TV remote or on the TV control panel, cycle through all inputs and see if you get a signal.
  2. From the TV's Video Menu, set tuning band to Cable and not to Air or Antenna.
  3. From the Video menu Scan for channels, there should be a Auto Scan option.
Try these and let me know how it goes, I can be of further assistance.
