When you turn on the tv it rotates though the channels without stoping. if you press menu it just rotates though the menu selections

You can autotune your Sony TV without a remote control. Fist connect it to an external antenna or cable whatever may be, to its antenna socket at the back side.

After you have finished connecting your TV, you can use Auto Program to set up your

channels. During Auto Program, the TV will automatically search for available channels and
program receivable channels.

[1] Press POWER button on the TV to turn it on. The Initial Setup screen appears.

[2] Press CH+ button on the remote control or on the TV front panel to start Auto Program, or press CH-- button to exit.

The Initial Setup screen appears each time you turn on the TV until you perform Auto Program.

To perform Auto Program again

1 Press"MENU" button on the front panel of your TV.
2 Press "RIGHT ARROW button to highlight Channel Menu.
2 Press DOWN ARROW BUTTON to highlight CABLE or ANTENNA AND PRESS [+} to select.

4 Press UP arrow or DOWN arrow to highlight On or Off according to how you connected your TV. Press [+] to select.

You will have to disconnect the TV from the AC outlet for a few seconds(10-20) then reconnect the TV and press power. You should get the start up menu after you get a picture. What you have to do is use the vol up/dn , chnl up/dn keys to select the autoprogram setting after chosing from cable or antenna signal. the enter key should be one of the DVD keys either play or stop or some other key, you'll have to experiment a little with it. There is an owners manual available at retrevo.com in case you need it, but I am posting a brief description stated in the manual on how to do this. If the channel icon is greyed out and you cannot tune the channels press the TV/DTV button on the remote control unit the icon is not greyed out and tuning is possible.

If the channel and other icons are greyed out and you cannot tune the channels press the TV/DTV button on the remote control unit so that the icon is visible again and not greyed out. This will allow you to tune the TV.

just spoke to Samsung support and it turns out that the freeview tuner had froze and needed resetting. To do this put TV on standby and then push in series these buttons on the remote: 'info, menu, mute, power' the TV will then turn itself on and display a menu. Press the 'down arrow' untill you've highlighted option 12 - 'reset' and then press the 'right arrow' to enter the option. TV will turn off and when you turn back on it will start in 'plug & play' mode as if new. Set the time and country options and then it will perform a complete scan. I've just retuned mine and all back to normal. Hoorah!!!! :-)
