"CHA" message - will not take picture

I have fully charged my battery for my D70S, however, i keep getting a "CHA" message on the LCD display (where it usually displays the # of pictures left.) I keep charging the battery, but keep getting this message, even on a fully charged battery.

What is the problem? Is my battery just dead (meaning it needs to be replaced)?

Thanks

What is the problem with this camera after you have charged it and it still displays battery exhausted? Not sure if this is a time to replace the battery or some error?

believe it is the film card. Try a different one.

No LCD display, "CLOCK" flashing

Seems the camera's internal battery (different from the EN-EL3 main battery) has drained. As the manual says, you can recharge the internal battery by leaving a fully-charged main battery in the camera for three days.

If the camera continues to pester you for clock setting, you'll have to send it in for service. (Opening the camera likely voided your warranty, btw.)

CHA?

I found this answer on the Nikon web site.

3) Camera displays “CHA” in top LCD. The camera has detected an invalid partition type or is not working properly. Reformatting the memory card may allow it to be used. If an approved memory card causes the camera to display the "CHA" indicator contact the memory cards manufacturer for assistance.

Please note that the default disk format used in Windows XP is FAT32 and if a card is formatted with this setting on an XP system, a D1 series camera will report "CHA". Reformat the card as "FAT" to use in the D1 series camera.

I have a Nikon D50 with an error message "CHA"

This error indicates the following:
This card cannot be used (CHR) blinks.
Problem(s)
Error accessing memory card
Unable to create a new folder (on card)
Card has not been formatted for use on D70

Try another card
Format the card using your D70 (all images will be erased)
Check the card for visible damage or poor contacts.

You may have inserted a memory card that was been used in a different camera or the formatting process did not complete successfully.
I hope this helps.

Nikon D70 won't recognize the 2 GB, type II memory card

Try to clean the contacts of the memory cards and, mostly, of the memory card bay of the camera. Use a dry anti-static fabric (e.g. what we use to clean eye-glasses). DON'T use any liquid cleaner of anything like that!
