The beginning of yourproblem is misdiagnosis, you probably had it code scanned, and got an 02 code, if you had it on a real time scanner you would get readings from the scanner to assist in diagnosis, story i tell my assistants, the floor is wet, first guy mops it up and leaves, second guy noticed water dripping on the floor, so he mops it and places a bucket to catch the drips. third gut sees the wet floor, notices the drip , looks up an notices the roof is leaking, so he fixes the leak and mops the floor, same idea with cars, you get the symptom but you have to find the cause to repair right, so find a tech with a real time scanner and take the time to do it right

Coolant temperature sensor

Just need to replace the sensor, first have diagnostic run and the sensor's output checked, if possible. As long as car does not "Over Heat" shouldn't effect the operation of the engine. Make certain your Coolant system is full and at 50/50 Water and antifreeze,

Hi R, As the vehicle started after replacing the oxygen sensor I don't believe the two problems are linked. Have your mechanic carry out a diagnostic scan and we'll go on from there. As a matter of interest, why did you replace the oxygen sensor? Regards John

We understand that your problem is: We have a 1997 GMC Safari 4.3 Litre 2 wheel drive. Stalls when idleing. Sputters when accelerating at speeds around 70-90 kms. Gas consumption has risen dramatically....

Welcome to the world of improper diagnostics. There isn't a trouble code in the world that says you should replace a part. It only tells you what's going on with that component. In your case, the code P0137 means that the computer sees Low Voltage on the Bank I Sensor 2 oxygen sensor. You replaced the sensor and still have the problem. That means the computer sees Low Voltage on the Bank I Sensor 2 oxygen sensor. In other words, you've got a wiring problem, not a part problem. You'll need a shop manual with step by step instructions on how to test the entire circuit to find the fault.

If the check engine light stayed off then that means that those errors are not present at this time. It is not un common to have intermittent faults but I would not preced any further until the light comes back on. Then re-scan the code see which are to begin diagnostics.

Leave 02 sensor alone ,it is doing it's job . It is heated up because of lean fuel mixture due to incorrect engine temp.,replace thermostat before looking further.
