Your LCD backlighting system is not functioning.Your LCD main board should detect the problem and would give you and error code.This needs an immediate service.See if the Tv is under warranty then you can return it an get a replacement.It usually the inverter that has the problem but also either one(even just one)baclighting bulb goes off it will shut off all the backlighting bulbs,thus a sound with no picture as a result.

Might be the bulbs.. try replacing it, or call toshiba support line/ service line.

hi,few yrs old tv? do you know few basic tip's check the power main board,look for leaky capacitors ,or dry solder's -re solder .and changed the 85'degree capacitors to 105' with the same volts.remember dis-conated from AC main before you do this job.good luck.

John, my thoughts is something in the main power supply. I don't know what an opto chip is but I've heard of Optocupler IC's.
May be a good idea to give a call to some local TV Repair Shops especially ones that work on Philip's and see if you can speak with a tech to see what their thoughts are on what the problem is and what a repair cost may be.
The issue is one of hauling it to the TV shop or having them come out to you.

Since it is a rear projection and the screen is black and there is no sound, I decided it was way past time for a new one. If I had to replace all 3 bulbs, it would be approx. what a new one would cost anyway.

The tuner is one board but I wouldn't suggest anyone but a qualified technician to replace it.

Check fuse #1003 on SSB and Audio Ouput IC #7700.

Power boards are like time bombs. When it's time is up, it's up. Since it is 3 yrs old, I would buy a new tv. Most TV parts only last 3-5 years anyways. It did a good job.

You may have a loose solder connection on the circuit board inside your set.
You need to have a technician check it for you.

The TV shuts off because the shutdown circuit it turning the TV set off. The shutdown circuit does this because of an over-current condition. I would advise that you take the TV to a qualified TV repair shop.
