i am surprised that it is not a stand alone scanner. for almost the same price i have a wolverine which basically works on mains power, or powered from laptop. it scans and stores the images in the unit. those can be later transferred to the laptop while connected via usb. one question, does the scanner lcd show the scanned image? if not may be something is wrong with the unit itself.

How to configure scaner of my toshiba 353 ,to scan on my pc

In order to allow the e-353 to scan to eMail, and PC, you must have an enabler (Scan, or Scan and Print), either on will allow you utilize the scanning function through network(PC and copier must be in the same subset).

Or you can use the USB connection, just install the unity from the CD, or download it from Toshiba.com

Choose the e-bridge full installer, burn the ISO image to a CD.

I have Mustek 1248US. Can it scan to PDF?

Scan to PDF is controlled by your software. What OS and software are you running? Under Windows, Nuance's PaperPort, http://www.nuance.com (or OmniPage which includes PaperPort) or Abby Fine Reader Express, http://www.Abby.com , both will let you scan to PDF. Open the software and set the options for scanning to PDF. Then press the scan button in the software. (Depending on the OS and Mustek driver, you may get this to work by pressing the Scan button on the scanner itself. This depends on installing a monitoring program that may be included in the drivers. This "listens" for the button press and then launches the desired software.) Other third-party software may also do this.

If you are using something like Windows Fax and Scan, you'll have to do two steps. Scan and then convert the file from an image to PDF. (There are dedicated programs that convert image files to PDF or you can do this is Microsoft Office or other office suites with the appropriate add-on.)

I hope this helps.

(I have an older scanner with Windows 7; I can only scan to PDF with third-party software.)

My Epson Perfection 1650 Photo scanner keeps producing scans that have a 3-4 inch bright panel vertically down the middle. The image is visible, but the outer thirds are quite darker than the middle...

Make sure all the scanning settings are correct first then set everything first before you preview image then hit scan.
make sure the size is correct drag the image on the prview screen make ths dotted lines frame your image then scan
remember you tell the machine what to do by setting it, if you dont the machine trys to do thevscan its self. Good luck, have fun
