Not a fix, shared information.
Yes these units have an internal ten year lithium battery. I am currently researching this issue, as I have two dead and one working 300series GPSs. When the internal battery dies and the regular batteries are removed or die the unit will loose all user data (way points and routes), as well as the satellite map and initialization. After dieing the unit will appear to function normally but fail to lock on, track or get a fix. Only showing the coordinates from the initialization. These units also have an internal capacitor that provides sufficient power to hold the memory during quick battery changes, but not over night. I have as yet found a working solution, but only researching this for a few days.
