Hi,

One feature, I often miss in Gmail is its ability to sort messages. By default, Gmail sorts mails by date, which doesn't do a great job in organizing your inbox. There is no facility to sort mails by name, subject, size and sender. Consider this scenario where sorting of mails can be very useful : You were on vacation and on returning found thousands of unread mails, and now you want to see only the unread messages by your boss between the specific dates.

Thanks.

I want to retrieve deleted email from my gmail how do I go about that.

If you've deleted a message permanently, by clicking Delete Forever in your Spam or Trash, you won't be able to recover the message using the Gmail interface.
In the past, users have reported that they are missing all of their messages as a result of unauthorized access. If your account was compromised and you would like us to investigate whether recovery is possible, please first complete this process to secure your account and then file a report.
If you've moved a message to Trash, by clicking Delete, but it's been fewer than 30 days and you haven't permanently deleted it, follow these steps to put it back in your inbox:
  1. Sign in to Gmail.
  2. Click Trash along the left side of any Gmail page. (If you don't see Trash along the left side of your Gmail page, go to the Labels tab in Settings, then click the show link next to the Trash label.)
  3. Locate the message you'd like to move to your inbox, and check the box next to the sender's name.
  4. Click Move to Inbox.

I am using GMAIL with Outlook Express but my outgoing mail does not go out as all my parameters is set properly accordingly

Gmail will no longer accept 'pop' remote access to accounts. You have to logon to the account via your browser and read your mail.

Hw can I block an email from coming in

The Settings section of GMail is needed to block SPAM from their webmail.
Click the gear icon, click "Settings", click "Filters", click "Create new filter". Enter words, names, etc., and save the new filter. I haven't tried it and don't know if anything else is needed.

If you use an email client to receive the mail such as Thunderbird, or Outlook Express, you can block individual senders, or create message filters where particular words cause a message to be redirected. Using Thunderbird, I have a filter that sends any email not in my address book to Trash, though I could send it to a SPAM folder or my Purgatory folder. I check each message header before deleting the message permanently. If a sender has a new email address, or hasn't mailed me before, I add them to the address book and they won't be filtered out in the future. But most of the time I see the name of someone I know in the Trash, it's just a scam, SPAM, or malware.

Hi, Could someone tell me how to sort incoming mail by sender. It's so much easier to file and delete with that feature that appears to be gone.

You can hover over the senders name, then click on the magnifying glass that appears to the right, upon doing so it will search all messages by that sender.

When my friend set up my computer he put his email in as back up if ever I had trouble he could access my computer. Now every time I send an email it reads from him & a lot of my friends won't even open it...

Every email message lists a sender name in the "From" field.
This name is defined by the value you entered in your email client when you first configured your account.
If you marry, divorce or need to change your name for any other reason, common email clients, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express and web-based services such as Windows Live Hotmail and Gmail, give you the ability to change the sender name to any alternate value with just a few clicks.

Click the "File" button near the top-left corner of the screen, select "Info" and click "Account Settings."
Select the name of your email account, and click the adjacent "Change" button.

Enter your preferred sender name in the "Your Name" field.

Click "Next," followed by "Finish," to confirm the change.

Microsoft Outlook Express 6

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar, and select "Accounts."

Select the "Mail" tab in the resulting dialog box.

Select the name of your email account, and click the adjacent "Properties" button.

Select the "General" tab on the screen that follows, and enter your preferred sender name in the "Name" field.

Click "OK," followed by "Close," to confirm your change.

Windows Live Hotmail

Log into your Windows Live Hotmail account.

Click the "Options" button near the top-right corner of the window, and select "More Options."

Click the "Account details" link located below the "Managing your account" heading.

Locate your name on the following screen, and click the adjacent "Change" link.

Enter your preferred sender name using the "First name" and "Last name" fields, and click "Save."

Gmail

Log into your Gmail account.

Click the "Settings" link located near the top-right corner of the window.

Click the "Accounts and Import" link on the screen that follows.

Look to the "Send mail as" section, locate your email address and click the adjacent "Edit info" link.

Enter your preferred sender name in the "Name" field, and click "Save Changes."
