What rewiring is needed to replace the overload relay with a universal kit, on an upright freezer? Kelvinator model VA16 W. There are two relays that connect to the compressor that need to be replaced. Both of these will be replaced by the one piece iniversal kit. -Thanks

The two pieces are Relay and Overload.

If you are using a supco relay/overload combination that has three wires with terminals and two wires with stripped ends the wiring is as such.

Red-Run Terminal, White-Start Terminal, Black-Common Terminal (Overload was wired to this)

Stripped wires are connected to line cord along with condenser fan wires.

Freezer stops running, unplug and replug and it starts??

Clean the condenser. It is probubally overheating. If the condenser is built into the sides of the freezer then the compressor overload could be faulty and needs to be replaced. It will be an overload/relay kit.

Kenmore 7.5 freezer stopped working.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just replaced the overload relay and it does the same thing. Runs for a few seconds and the loud click from overload relay. I did notice the relay is really hot to the touch, if that matters.Coils on back are clean. I had noticed the last few months that the inside coils were frosting up quite a bit.Really had hoped it was the relay.

NOT COOLING ....CLICKING SOUND FROM COMPRESSOR

Compressor Start Relay/Overload or Compressor is bad. A bad compressor can cause Start Relay/Overload to go bad but the only way to know is to replace the Start Relay/Overload if you still have the same prob. or it works a week or so and it happens again the Compressor is bad or if luck is on your side it will work.

Make sure you have 120volts at relay if not jump out thermostat if it starts to run and stays running Replace the thermostat. If you have 120volts at relay and it is not running or it's kicking off and on replace Start Relay/Overload but a bad compressor can make a Start Relay go bad so if you have the same Prob. after replacing Start Relay/Overload Compressor is bad

Start Relay/Overload or Compressor is bad. A bad compressor can make a Start Relay/Overload go bad but the only way to find out if compressor or Start Relay/Overload is bad is to replace the Start Relay/Overload if it starts and stays running you fixed it if Prob. returns in a week or so or if you have the same Prob. after replacing the relay the compressor is bad.

I want to know if there is a reset button on my kelvinator freezer

Hi, no, there is no reset button on your freezer. There is an overload relay wired into the compressor, but you cannot reset it. What kind of problem do you have?

Buzzing compressor

heres a part number for the overload relay assy 5304468029.. its mounted on the side of compressor. its a tricky one, usually my experience has been the noise comes from a bad compressor( which you should have 5 year full warr from manufacture). sometimes the overload relay does go bad preventing compressor from starting, the n ew compressor will come with a new overload relay

Kenmore Upright Freezer Works Sometime

try a new start relay and overload kit specifically for the make and model freezer you are working on. if compressor can be seen ,the numbers on it can be used to get correct oem start cap, relay ,and overload. if your unit is having starting problems that will usually fix it. if however, the stat is failing to bring it on a new stat is called for. but it sounds like it is having starting problems since you said it was off a long while then still struggled on the overload to start then finally did. if the new start components don't work then new freezer time. compressor replacement is to expensive anymore. good luck
