I have this slight problem with MSI K9N2 SLI platinum, every time I change the power supply to it, it refuses to use pci-e card and wants to use intergrated, I cant seem to find any fix to it from bios, when I go to windows the windows is set up to so big resolution I lose the signal from the integrated card(at the right moment when windows loading logo goes away, it once went to log in screen but after putting password windows changed resolution to that what I have used 1920x1080, the signal was lost), when I go to safe mode I can only see a slight piece of the monitor on but I cant see anything so I could select a thing, in bios and boot I can see everything, when the pc starts now it takes 1-3mins to load the settings in motherboard(the led groups 1-4 stay red those 1-3 mins), the motherboard says that the pci-e card is functional but it doesnt use it even when I put it as main card in bios, im really starting to get desperate because I have used this same power supply before and it worked fine without any problems. Before this it usually found the pci-e card and use it after booting pc few times the pc up but now it doesnt want to use it.

If you can get into the BIOS, try setting with default settings.

SOURCE: MSI k8ngm2-h mobo doesn't recognize PCI-E slot anymore!

Just a suggestion for you to try.
This is to check whether your PCI-E card is ok or not.
The BIOS setting option should be on PCI Express.
Take out the power cable from the hard disk - we don't want to mess around with window driver or system that might be the culprit.
Now turn on the computer, if ok, you should see some texts on your screen. This is a confirmation that your PCI-E card is still working. So then for you to work on your windows to solve the problem. Good luck.

SOURCE: sli mode

I believe that SLI only works if the cards are exactly the same model.

SOURCE: Unexpectedly lost graphics, but theres a story to the issue.

You mentioned that you disabled the on-board graphics card using the device mamager.
You should disable the on-board video card in the BIOS.
Go to the BIOS config and disable the Video.

Does the MSI K8n NEO4 Platinum SLI motherboard support the Geforce GTX 550 Video Card?

The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum Edition mobo, has an AGP graphics expansion slot. (Accelerated Graphics Port)

It uses AGP graphics cards that are either 4X, or 8X. (Supports 1.5 Volt AGP graphics cards, hence 8X)

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo-Platinum.html#/?div=Detail

Click on the Specification tab. Look under the bold - Slots - subheading.

(Overview, { Which is the tab it automatically opens to}, Specification, Download, Support, News and Awards, Where to Buy )

This is Evga's version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625

Click on the Details tab. (Overview, Details, Feedback)

Under the bold - Interface - heading, and to the right of the subheading - Interface, we see the interface is - PCI-Express 2.0 x16.

Tells you a lot right off the bat, if you know what you are looking at.

1) The graphics expansion slot you need on your motherboard, is a PCI-Express x16 slot.

You have an AGP graphics expansion slot. (That uses either 4X, or 8X AGP graphics cards)

2) The PCI-Express technology used is PCI-Express 2.0

Therefore the answer is No, Stephen.

[ More info on AGP graphics technology, and PCI-Express technology,

1) AGP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGP

2) PCI-Express:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Now if someone asks you, why the GeForce GTX 550 graphics card will not work on your motherboard, you can explain why in detail, instead of just saying some dude/dudette on FixYa, said it will not work.

Are you sure some 'Mom and Pop' computer store will not trade out, a decent AGP graphics card, for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 you have?
Always worth a shot. Just MHO.

It does not work. The motherboard has "died". I would like to purchase a different MB to replace it. What recommendations do you have? I have/had an MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard

I recommend this board here, it is completely compatible with what you have now. It is a bit smaller than your board physically, but will definitely fit in the same case you currently have and will work with your components. Before you go to the link please make sure you click YES below my answer here to indicate it was helpful to you, it would mean a great deal to me if you could do so. Thank you so much, here is the link:

Is the MSI-K9N SLI-Platinum (MS-7250) capable of running an HD capable video card?

I would recommend upgrading your RAM to 2GB or even 4GB before investing into HD video card. It might be jerky. Your processor should be ok for it as it is.

Msi k8neo4 platinum mainboard pci express support

No. There is no software to change pci-e speeds. You would need a board already set up for pci-e2 to get the top speeds. Most pci-e2 graphics cards are backwards compatible but they will run at the slower speed. Hope this helps.

MSI K9N4 SLI-F / Vid Card question

Hi, for the best graphics always go for dual graphic cards. This is the best way to obtain realistic 3D effects. The onboard audio chips is every bit as good as stated, MSI systems are equal to the best but at a lower price. The only change I can see that you need to make is to install a better power supply. A minimum 500w is needed with your system and if your budget allows then anthing up to 600w. Have fun with your games. Regards mistyman
