Hi, I just purchased this computer and now I am experiencing the following problems:
1) Computer will not power off or go into sleep or hibernate mode. It always restarts.
2) "Tray" icons are showing that my internet connection is not connected (but it is) and that my antivirus software is not working and my Spyware icon is missing altogether.
As I said, I just got this thing - so please help keep me from throwing it against the wall! Thanks.
I had the same problem with Toshiba Pro with XP Pro.
Discovered that, even though Wake Up on LAN option is disabled in BIOS, computer wakes up only when LAN cable is connected. So it was LAN wake up call.
Solution:
Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection icon, Properties, Configure (Adapter on General Tab), Advanced...
find the property that says 'Wake from Shutdown' or similar and set it to Off.
I seems like Adapter Property overrides BIOS setting through APM. One can notice how after shutting down, standby or hibernate LAN connector LED lights are now off and not blinking on traffic like before.
Does it wotk on Vista, I don't know.
I'm out for the evening, but I'll be back tomorrow morning. Leave the info and I'll get you a solution.

also have 1525 with Vista SP1. Very often will just reboot after being asked to either sleep, hibernate or shut off. If I unplug the machine it seems to shut off more of the time, but not all of the time. If I crash it and reboot in safe mode and the exit from safe mode to close down altogether it generally works. It is a pain to have the thing start back up when I am counting on it going into an energy saving mode. What a pain!
I have the same problem. Any solutions to this?
I'm ready to take this computer back.
I just bought the Inspiron 1525 from Best Buy for $699.
Same problem...Crashes...reboots (error) when I try to standby or hibernate.
Does anyone have a fix. I've tried everything ONLINE.
Arg!
i diagnoses the computer..
checked how to repair it one the web. but no success..
I CANT FIGURE IT OUT!!
i click on sleep.. it goes into a state where it is about to go to sleep.. but on the last sec.. it restarts.. so could you pls help me?
Same problem with my inspiron 1525. remove all of the un-needed trialware that dell installs.
go to support.dell.com and update all your drivers and most of all remember that its windows. dont download random ****, and keep your antivirus up to date and in good health. Avast is a decent free antivirus for home users.
When I try to put my laptop to sleep, it restarts with an error message that Windows did not shut down properly. What is going on?! I've had it for about 4 months but this just recently started happening.
Also, was Vista the original, shipped operating system?
Is this a new machine or used, and what type of antivirus/antispyware are you using?
