Promlem in installing my HP printers 2460 & 4260

No OS stated, is this windows or linux or freedos.?
This PC came with VISTA in the USA< is it still vista? or slammed with some other alien OS. (not using HP install media)

find any usb keyboard,real and plug it in (barrow one?)

does that work?. if yes, good, if not the OS is corrupted.
(know that corruption has endless possibles) ask.

try a real keyboard, all USB work on your LAPTOP
if that fails, then your OS is corrupted,
if that works, the USB key board, then your internal keyboard is bad, time for a new one, for sure.

Be Backed up first your DATA backed up 1st !
then

RECOVERY HP WAYS:
power on button
then quickly hammer the F11 key,
this is the HP magic F11 recovery key.
then do a full recover.
if you PC was slammed with MS disks , F11 is now dead forever.

I had the same problem. I tried to install my new HP Photosmart 8550 printer onto my HP desktop, I am running on Vista 64 bit. Kept getting fatal error MSI.dot4wrp40 over and over again. Upset that my Windows installer was corrupted. I search the internet for this error and realized that this only comes up with NEW HP Printers and scanners. I went to Epson's website and downloaded a driver for one of their photo printers and downloaded the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo1400 Vista 64 bit driver, and guess what it installed I went and bought this printer and I am up and running again. Sorry HP I am jumping ship. The week before I tired to install this HP printer, I installed Print Shop Pro Publisher 23, Blackberry desktop, and Canon digital utilities which in fact all use Window Installer. All installed with no problem, and they are all working. I believe this error message has to be a conflict between HP and Microsoft's 64 bit OS only.... Google THIS ERROR and you will notice only HP comes up.

Download and install the Vista driver for your printer from the HP website. Once installed you should be all set. Hope this helps.

try downloading the software or just plugging the printer in(if vista) and letting the O.S. download the correct drivers.

If the option is there, usually when you have an OS disk there is a repair option. Try that and see how far it gets you.

I think windows vista is not a printer driver friendly..I suggest that you use windows XP or windows 7 for your computer OS.
