For simple but in-depth troubleshooting, I suggest this link for you to review in regards to working toward resolving the Macbook Air SuperDrive CD /DVD issues. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If the guide provided above does not resolve the problem, then the issue here is that your USB Superdrive (unless you are using a different non-Apple 3rd party CD/DVD drive) is experiencing a mechanical failure.
This Apple external USB CD/DVD SuperDrive is fairly straight-forward in its use.
Now if the issue you were having had something to do with only a DVD or CD constantly ejecting automatically after you placed such a disk in the drive, that would be different.
In this case however, if the guide above does not help and you are experiencing the SuperDrive working intermittently, my advice, is to take your Macbook Air with the external SuperDrive in to your local Apple retail store Genius bar or Apple Authorized service provider for a free diagnostics to determine the root cause of the SuperDrive failing intermittently.
Feel free to reply back if you have any questions regarding the information I have provided you.
Hi
I think the answer is in your question. Pioneer DVD-RW drive, DVD+R disc.
For some reason known only to Apple, some drives do not work with all discs. Mine will not burn -R dual Layer discs.
some pioneer dvd models have firmware upgrades to solve problems with some DVD brands - check your model and visit the pioneer components website - I have a DVD reader which worked better after the firmware upgrade - try this site http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=PCVRZ44G&upd_id=1692&os_id=16
Kim,
I'm glad you asked this. I have had problems with my superdrive as well. What I found out through persistent research is this:
The new Superdrives can take CD+R and DVD+R. (I am assuming you are asking about recording?
However, the older models of Superdrives ---usually found in Powerbook G4s, can take CD-R and DVD-R. These are different from the first ones ini that they are slower to burn, and just a few gb short of space than the +. this should help solve the problem with taking new cds and dvds for burning. The superdrive tends to just spit these right back out. If you are referring to playing them, then have you tried cleaning the dirty ones? Check the help section at www.apple.com. they have wonderful solutions. Try to put in a couple new cds or dvds to play. Open up itunes or the dvd player before you put the disks in. If you're still having trouble, make use of that warranty and go to your nearest apple store to fix it right up!
Hope this helps!
