It might be the Dio fuse..You have to take the cover off unit..It will be on the side..It looks different than a normal fuse...There pretty cheap..Replace it and your unit might heat up again.Make sure you unplug it..Don't mess with anything else.I have done this before...Mine started working again...Why they put it on the inside? So you want see it. Many have gone to the land fields because of the internal Dio fuse...Good luck

2004 model will probably have trouble getting the magnetron for it or the program board to repair it
Generally the cost to diagnose it and the parts problem would make a replacement unit with a warranty a better proposition

If it's the cooling fan inside the main body of the microwave, I would suspect an open thermistor / temperature sensor. If it's the vent fan (for the grille across the top) then I would suspect the hood thermostat is shorted. The oven should have a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) inside, usually in the control panel frame behind the door open button. It shows these parts and how to test them. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

SOURCE: No power from Whirlpool.

The problem was a defective switch. There are 3 switches on mine. 1 on the top door latch, and 2 on the bottom. one of the switches on the bottom connected the power and neutral together, unless it was activated at the same time as the other 2, causing the breaker to trip or the internal fuse to blow. When unhooking the wire going from this switch to the other switch, everything works great now. Though I still need to replace the switch.

And for Basic 1. Yes my microwave did have a fuse in it it's ceramic, I got a pack of them at Radio Shack 4 for 3$ 250V 20 Amp. There should be a wiring diagram inside the microwave, mine was inside a black bag, so it may be hard to see.

Mine was up top next to the fuse behind the Plastic Grill and then a small metal grill. Some are behind the control panel, to fix this remove the screw at the top and then slide the control panel up and it should unhinge.

I am currently experiencing the same problem. I called in Sylvia Brown because I thought that my room could have been haunted...come to find out IT WAS!! She said I did not have a short in my microwave, and that the reason it was turning on was because "the spirit" in my room wanted to kill me. My microwave plate produced a white, foamy, brownish color which she said was what would have killed me. You need to get your houses/apartments looked at if you are currently having the same issue. We thought everything was ok, and come to find out we really were being hunted down by spirits. Run away....FAST!!!!

p.s. this is the above writer's roommate....she's NOT lieing!!!!! be on the lookout for the white foamy brownish spot....it WILL get you, it got me. DUN DUN DUN

Mirowave not heat

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here: http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd/mwd_ad_aug_2008_background.mp3

And what is your full model number from the tag on / in the unit?

These answers will help me judge whether it's in the high voltage section (magnetron, transformer, or diode) or the control section (door switch or control board relay or connection).

Please post a new help request with your brand and full model number from the tag and the answers to these questions so we can help you properly.

Model gh5176xpb my unit puts out no heat on any setting. all control lights and settings turn on as does the turntable and light.

The problem is in the magnetron "more likely" or the high voltage transformer "unlikely" generates the power to run the magnetron which heats the food. The repairs will exceed what the microwave oven is worth, I strongly advise replacing the unit, and you will be covered under warranty.

Whirlpool Model #MH1170XSS-0 will not heat

Since FixYa is not currently notifying us Experts when Clarification Requests are answered, you will need to post a NEW help request.

I
n your new post, please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit and your symptoms, as well as the answer to the following questions:

- When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

- Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

(A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.)

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

My Whirlpool microwave is not heating. The light, turntable and fan is working. What is my next step? model MH2175SXQ-0

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

My microwave bulbs don't work

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Unit not getting power

These machines seem prone to having a bad magnetron. Look for a circuit breaker near the power cord entry point. If tripped, reset and try to heat a cup of water. If it makes a loud buzz and then pops the breaker again, the consensus view is a bad magnetron. This is one repair that is recommended to send out. (~$150). You need to evaluate the probable cost vs a new machine.

Whirlpool(GH7145XF2-0) does not work occasionally

That's how it would sound if you were cooking on a power level less than full power.

If you enter the cooking time and hit Start, it should cook at full power by default and not cycle like you describe.

If you are using some sensor cook setting or automatic type cooking setting, it may cycle like that normally.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

If you don't have your manual, you can download it free here. Check the lower right area to enter your model. number.

Won't cook but everything works like it should

Good idea to run at half power. Good thinking. That can sometimes reveal an overheating magnetron.

Does it seem to buzz or hum louder than normal?

If so, you may have a shorted high voltage diode or a bad magnetron. If not, I only suspect the magnetron.

If it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

We have critical safety & disassembly info (including a how-to video) at our site, linked here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Whirlpool customer service is here.
