If your camera has FireWire, you can install a FireWire card, Or USB "Dongle" into your PC, Or you can install a TV/Video "Capture" card Or USB dongle, to your PC, then using Video Capture Software, essentially, making the PC into a DVR, you can then record, and save it to disk, and then you can do with it whatever you wish.

The best way to send movies from your camera to the PC these days are with a Firewire cable, USB cables wont go without a driver on Windows PC's, but with Firewire you wont need drivers.
Cable available from most good Camera shops inc PC World stores.
SOURCE: Respected Sir, I have sony dcr-trv265e
I am having the same problem and the answer I believe is that windows 7 does not support the original Picture Package software which came with the camera. Sony offers an alternative software upgrade called PMB howeverit does not support USB and you need to have a firewire cable to transfer images from camera to computer. I unfortunately do not have a firewire port on my laptop so now I am trying to find out if there is a usb driver available.
