I am using windows 7 in my compac 320 laptop but can not install windows xp! How can I install it in my laptop?

7 is far better then xp... but if you want to put xp on, format the drive using xp, you need the laptop to boot from rom drive 1st, set it in bios...

If you try to install from cd/dvd drive, your optical drive lens can't read data well and resulting to delay transfer of data or error installation.Try cleaning the lens with cotton or lens cleaner and try again. Or maybe you have bad installer.

the fastest way is formatting, not upgrade. If you want to save your important file first, use live cd like avast bart pe or something like that to copy or transfer your file to another partition.. This if you can't access your hard drive

HP Compac NX5000 wont load XP Home on new hard drive

This situation leads me to believe that the CD or DVD drive is faulty,,or the install disc you are using is scratched or dirty.
Try cleaning the disc and begin again.
Another option is to take the hard drive out and using a 2.5 to 3.5 inch HD adapter ,,plug into a desktop PC as a slave.
And copy your WinXp cd onto a partition on your laptop HD.
Then using a Win98Se floppy boot disc you can access the winXP and install from there.

Baught a Hitachi HDP725032GLAT80 hard drive. Installed it as a slave drive in my existing PC ... The PC says it's installed and working correctly, but I cannot see it in Windows Explorer??? Have I missed...

Did you format it? The PC won't recognize it until it's formatted, which you can do via Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management, then click on Disk Management on the left side. You'll see the drive, and have the option to format it right from there.
That's the first thing to check. Let me know if you've already done that and it's still not being recognized.

These are the xp drivers if you have the CQ3320an. If you have the CQ3320L you're out of luck as XP is not supported.

Ultimately your best solution would be to go to either compaq.com or call their customer service and just order recovery discs for that specific model. Usually it will only cost you about 15 to 20 bucks and that you have ALL of the drivers that you need.
