I have a SONY DVD Recorder (RDR-HX750) and i can no longer record or edit on the hard disk as it displays "0h00m Remain" on the hard disk but it is not full and i have erased many titles from the hard disk and it still indicates that the hard disk is full. Everything else works normally. I have tried the suggestion from the manual - turn off the dvd player, pull the plug and waiting for a while and replace the plug and turn the dvd player back on - didnt help.

SOURCE: Unlock zone code

I managed to unlock my DVD player with a solution I found on videohelp.com. I quote the solution:

I made my new RDR-HX750 code free with this Remote Controll program on my old iPAQ:

http://rapidshare.com/files/12586334/RC1_825.rar

Just follow these steps:
Turn player to DVD mode and switch off player (standby) with NO DVD inserted
Press 1 on NoviiRemote
Press 2 on NoviiRemote
Press 3 on NoviiRemote
Press 4 on NoviiRemote
Press 5 on NoviiRemote
Player turns on
Press 1 on NoviiRemote
Press 2 on NoviiRemote
Press 3 on NoviiRemote
Press 4 on NoviiRemote
Press 5 on NoviiRemote
Player shows "T:imer OK" on the display and turns off
Turn player on again, after that you can verify your firmware setting:
1. System Menu
2. Settings
3. Audio output
4. Dolby output
5. Just mark "Dolby Digital"
6. Press Angle button

If successful your code region should be "14"

The first problem is to find an old PDA with infrared (Irda) since the newer models no longer use Infrared. The PDA also needs to have windows mobile. I managed to get hold of one via my dad.

I downloaded the program via the link above; after some trial and error, I managed to install the NoviiRemote program.

After installing boot up the Noviiremote progra. You have to select the "sony 0" codebase; don't worry, it's easy to find after you booted up the program on your PDA and it comes with the download. You will see a screen with 5 digits: 1 2 3 4 5.

After this, the instructions say:

press 1 2 3 4 5; the player turns on.

Instead of what the instructions say, when I did this, my player did NOT turn on. I turned it on manually, then continued with the procedure. I pressed 1 2 3 4 5 and the display indeed said: t:imer ok. I don't know if it is necessary to press the digits before turning the DVD player on, but hey, who cares, since eventually it worked.

After this I went on following the instructions: turn on the dvdplayer, press the system menu button on the remote, go to settings, go to audio output, go to dolby output and highlight/select/mark "dolby digital". Then I pressed the angle button as mentioned. You see a "secret" textbox where your region should be displayed as 14. I tried to play my region 1 DVDs and voila, to my own surprise it worked!

I don't know who made the codebase for the Noviiremote program, but I am very thankful. I hope this helps more people!

SOURCE: HOW DO YOU BURN A DVD ON A SONY DVD RECORDER RDR

Make sure your Sony input signal is on L1 or L3 (the inputs in back of recorder) or on L2 which is for inputs for cameras(located in front).Once you get a signal, you're where you need to be. Choose your recording mode for recording speed (pull down the flap on the remote control for this button and also the input button).
Choose from between1 hour and six hours. To archive really important stuff, stick with the first 3 speeds. TV recording can be on 3, 4 or 6 hour mode.
Push the record/pause button once. This will put the recorder into the record/pause mode and then it awaits you pushing it again to start recording immediately. Just pushing record will force the machine into a 3 to five second delay before actually recording anything so you might mess up and miss the first few seconds of your input. Suggest you use a dvr-rw or dvd+rw to practice on.

When your recording is done, just push the pause again. It stops recording but allows you to add more on to the first recording without starting a new chapter if you want. Just continue to release the pause button to continue.
If you are satisfied that you are finished, then push the pause button to stop recording. Wait for the info to be written(flashing message on screen). When it stops, you may play the dvd.
Notice- since the dvd has not been FINALIZED, you may only play it back on this unit without finalizing. It will not play on other dvd players unless you finalize it first.
To finalize, look on remote for the TOOL button. Press it once. Now push DISC INFO once. Use arrow keys and enter button on remote for the following. Scroll down to FINALIZE and press enter.
Use arrow keys to scroll to OK. push the ENTER button. Finalizing should take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.

Warning- if titles or chapters are to typed in, it must be done BEFORE finalizing. Finalizing afterwards cannot be done.
Erasing can be done in part or all if using an RW+ or RW- disc

SONY RDR-HX 900 C13 ERROR

According to the operation manual, C 13 error indicates a problem with the HDD or the inserted DVD is dirty and/or defective. If cleaning/using a different disc does not solve the issue, then the unit will need to be submitted to an authorised SONY service centre for repair.

This could be expensive if the recorder is no longer under any warranty, and, if a built in hard drive is involved, replacement and reconfiguration may be necessary for this model. Get a quote, so that you will have an idea of the likely cost(s).

This service/error 'code' is part of the unit's self diagnosis function.
