This is usually a problem with your service area. If you phone is not set up to roam in an area where service is not available, (verizon?) your phone will not roam and you will miss calls when they come in, although an alert doesn't cost the service provider as much, so they send one to you, telling you that you have recieved a phone call. This has happened to me several times while using Sprint, since their service is not as broad as Verizon.

My phone goes straight to voicemal, how do I fix this?

Call your provider, they can help you reset it. It appears you are not getting a ring signal. It is also possible it has been forwarded.
