My computer is not starting up when i turn the power on. It will turn on but will anthing but a black screen. This screen has no backlight. Also, nothing seems to be working other than the power. The hard drive light is not flashing as is everything else other than the power. I have rebooted and tried to start from an external disk, but nothing seems to be working. If you could help that would be great. Thanks.

Few things to try.
remove battery and just boot off power cable.
remove hdd and see if you can get bios screen
reseat memory
if you have 2 memory chips try removing 1 first, same proble the replace and then do the other

try an external monitor or tv

most laptops require this to be enabled by pressing a function key and an F key.

this should either fix or narrow down the faulty part

I can't turn start the computer the screen is just black

Has the computer been dropped, jarred, etc. Are you getting a "ghost image" on the screen in a bright light? With little info, it could be backlighting, lose connection, monitor, ribbon cable, etc.

Monitor black screen dark picture when power on then black. power button flashing

I'm having the same problem, my power button just flashes now, and it seems like the screen tries to turn on over and over again.

I'm pretty sure its the backlight for the LCD.

If your very handy, go to inventgeek.com and type in LCD backlight fix.

Sony KDL-32ML130 lcd tv

Not really that tough. Sounds as though the backlight is shutting down, either from a power supply failure, or a failure of the backlight circuit itself. You can verify this by holding a flashlight to the screen in the area where the menu usually appears to see if it displayed on the LCD panel with no backlight. If you can faintly see the menu displayed, your backlight has shut down and the most likely cause is the backlight inverter board, followed by the power supply and the backlights themselves which are part of the LCD panel. If you found this information answered your questions, please be sure to rate it. Thanks!

The screen still displays the image but the backlight if off

you need to get the inverter changed out. Thats the part that changes DC to AC and powers the backlight

Monitor goes black

Sorry to have to tell you this, but this is common in LCD monitors. The reason that it is going black when it boots is for one of two reasons. You either have a bad power supply that powers your LCD or your LCD's backlight is blown. These can be repaired or you can purchase a new one. But if it goes black 9 times out of 10 is because the backlight is bad. These can be repaired!

MONITER LIGHT IS GREEN BUT ONLY SHOWS A NORMAL SCREEN FOR 1/2 SECOND THEN TURNS BLACK

HI. I had the same problem with mine. It would flash the screen on for a split second and then turn black, the whole time the power light remained green. Upon opening up the case, I pulled the combo power supply board/inverter board out for inspection. I noticed one of the capacitors had a bulge on top indicating it was bad. It was the the 680uf 25v capacitor. I desoldered it, and soldered in the new one. After hooking everything back up, bingo!! Monitor now works perfectly. I couldn't find an exact match to the capacitance locally, but I had a 1000uf 35v cap in my utility box. It worked fine as a replacement. You can usually go within 30 percent of tolerance and be alright. Just don't go under on capacitance or voltage. I hope this helps.

My Screen Is Black When I turn the Laptop On

When you say ?it turns on fine? I?m assuming that the power and hard drive LEDs turn on. If that is the case it could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. With the computer on and the monitor power LED green shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. This is usually an economically repairable problem but not for the typical home user. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate this posting.

Screen not appearing straight away

It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems till it warms up. Turn you computer on and while the monitor is displaying black and the power LED is green shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. A 15" LCD monitor is probably not an economically repairable problem unless you have access to really cheap parts and have the skills and tools to do the repair yourself.
