I need a manual for the cobra 360 laser 12 band radar detecter

I would try to steal one from a mechanical ink pen and cut it to length. Worth a shot.

Mute shuts off sound warning of radar, The left top button is for dimming the display, the right top button is for city or highway selection, the C light comes on in CITY mode to reduce microwave interference X/K and Ka are radar indicators. L is for laser. The bars at the bottom show the strength of the signal. VS is a radar detection detector or warning of an emergency vehicle.

Does it also go off passing gas stations?

The letters X, K, and Ka designate radar frequency bands used by radar based speed monitors. The letters correspond to designations given by Federal Communication Comission (FCC) frequency bands reserved for speed monitor equipment.

• X band - 10.525 GHz
• K band - 24.150 GHz
• Ka band - 33.4 ... 36 GHz
  

The number (range is 1 ... 5) is the radar signal strength, where 1 indicates weakest signal (you are still at some distance, or maybe false alarm) while at 5 you should be able to see the white in the eye of the cop holding the radar gun.

The letter V indicates the detection of a "Detector Detector". Devices like the Cobra are illegal in some countries and police has counter-measures available to detect some radar detectors. The maker of the Cobra states, their products go unnoticed but that won't help you if highway patrol sees the thing sticking on your windshield.

The letter S indicates hazard warnings (like train crossings).

Finally, L indicates detection of a LASER based velocity detector.

The display just shows you the different types of radar bands it is detecting. For example, the is an X band, a K band, a KA band and so forth. All it is, is a different frequency of radar being used.

Its all marketing hype. Cobra breaks up the three X, K and Ka bands into sub-bands, and they do the same for the single 904nm laser wavelength. There are no sub-bands for X or K band. In the USA, Ka band radar guns operate on three Ka band frequencies: 33.8, 34.7 nd 35.5 MHz. Cobra also breaks up the single laser band based on the known pulse rates of various laser gun models. Yet in general if you get a laser alert from a nearby cop then likely you have been tagged and will be getting a ticket.

To the original poster, the officer could have used laser, vascar, or pacing to issue a speeding ticket. The officer also could have used a very quick burst of instant-on radar which Cobra brand radar detectors are notorious for not detecting. The officer also could have used a 35.5 Ka band radar gun. Cobra and other import brands of radar detectors usually have great difficulty detecting 35.5 Ka band radar.
