I assume the camera is shutting off the the lens won't stay extended? First remove the batteries for 30 seconds. Then replace them, sometimes that works. Now, the error is generally caused by the gears in the lens becoming out of alignment or some particle gets in and makes the gears stick. Try holding the camera (like you are going to take a picture with both hands), Then remove your left hand and bang the bottom of the camera on the palm of your left hand a few times. Do it with a little force, a few times. This should fix it. Try multiple times. If it still doesn't work, then you will need to send it to a repair service center. I don't think its the battery. My just did this this week..If I slide the Favorites switch up (switch by hand strap mounting hole) I can view the pictures in it, but it won't use in photo mode, Lens won't extend, and it shuts off?
Pull the battery and plug the charger into the camera. It should turn on and take pics now. If it does, you need a new battery!
Yeah, I know, the battery shows fully charged but it's weak and old so it really doesn't have the current to drive the lens.
Try to clean the battery terminals with an abrasve pencil eraser, (old red eraser #2 pencil from grade school) and wiggle the battery in the camera (gently) to clean the terminals inside the camera.
Let the camera charge the battery completly, (not in the dock!) and see if it turns on.
If it does, you will probably find that it discharges VERY quickly.
Buy a new battery! That extra battery that you have had since you bought the camera is probably also shot! They do have a shelf life!
If the camera does not turn on with just the charger, (no battery) then it's probably a lens error, but you should see an error code if it is.
Hey akpssttt, I had the same problem with my kodak and even though I was able to turn on the camera, the lens would not come back in. So after awhile I just gave up took it to the repair shop and they still weren't able to fix it. So I left the camera for about a year now, gathering dust, but recently I decided to give another shot, and amazingly when I plug the camera into the charger, the lens went back in! And now the camera works perfectly.
So I would suggest you leaving your camera out for awhile and do not charge it until the batteries is completely drained. And then plug it back into the charger.
