My advent speakers wont work they used to also my competer is saying theres none installed i know i sound thick but how can i reinstall them as i have no cd??? thanks kate

I think what you need to do is reinstall your sound cards driver. or reinstall windows system.sometime reinstall system is more easyer than install soundcard driver.

It doesn't play any music, that the device is not install or used by any other proogram

first check bios wether the sound device is enabled then start your computer to OS right click my computer icon on the desk top click properties click hardware click device manager expand the sound vedio and game controllers you will see the drivers for the sound card installed if you cant find the reinstall the driver if the driver is marked yellow its a wrong driver or the driver is not installed corectly remove them and reinstall the correct drivers if its addon sound card go to the bios and desable the build in sound device and install the drivers in the sequence given above

Means windows cannot find your sound card and has not installed drivers for it. Thus no sound.
Need to reinstall sound card drivers.
First check if hardware / device manager shows error state for sound card. ie yellow circle with exclamation mark. If so delete those drivers and restart to reinstall. If you're lucky it will install correctly next time. Otherwise you need to install drivers yourselves from m/b or sound card driver CD

When checking for sound I get a message sayng no sound units are installed. I might have unistalled them at one point - how can I reinstall then now? sound unit missing is HDMI and PC

Yes you need to reinstall the drivers.Do you have a install cd?If so run the cd and reinstall the drivers.If you dont go to the manufacturers website search for the drivers usually under support section.

Can not install sound driver after a new windows xp installed , so can you send me the correct sound driver ?

If Vista:
Dell Vostro 1000 audio driver for Vista.

If XP:
Dell Vostro 1000 audio driver for XP., if it won't install then first reinstall Dell Vostro 1000 chipset driver..

If still having problems then reinstall all drivers from Dell Vostro 1000 downloads page in order written here.

Sound doesn't work after reinstalling windows

yes sometimes you need sound drivers..do you have motherboard disc handy? if so just play and install sound drivers from that cd..start/settings/controlpanel/system/hardware/devicemanager

all the items you see with excemation mark needs drivers after a reinstall of XP..good luck and i hope it helps you..

Right click on My Computer either on the start menu or on your desktop it does not matter. Go to Properties, then click on the Hardware Tab on top. Once you are under that tab, click on Device Manager, Locate Sound, video and game controllers. There should either be a yellow question mark type icon. You will need to double click that. It should come up with 3 choice options. Select Yes this time only. Place the CD-ROM containing the Drivers into your computer. If you do not have a CD, you will need to find out the model number and possibly brand name of the sound card you are using for the drivers, then you would download them to a folder some where on your computer. And proceed to choose a destination to where the driver could be located.
