The tweeters are probably blown, i had the same problem.
You can test this by placing the cable on the dismanteled crossover at the back of the speaker. colour blue/yellow.
No high volume please.

for pictures.
If the tweeter is blown it can be dismanteld with the aid of a screwdriver, horizontally.
Place it between the tweeterbowl and the ring which has the mark wharfedale on it. The tweeter comes loose. On second hand sites you can buy little speakers, like modus one or two's with the same tweeters for a good price and put them on your larger speakers.

This how i repaired 2 of my 4 modus eights.

Yes, you can easily check it by removing it and swapping it with your other one. If the one from the second cabinet works, then the speaker itself has died. If not, either the wiring is the problem, or the crossover in the cabinet. If you take the first speaker that wasn't working, and put it in the second cabinet and it works, then likely it's your crossover. Please rate my answer, thanks.

SOURCE: Tweeters only works when touched!

This is not a solution, but I have the same problem. Obviously, the problem is with the tweeter not the crossover. I can't find a replacement tweeter so i am about to take it to my local stereo repair store and see if they can fix it. If you find a replacement tweeter, let me know.

I've just been given a Wharfedale S-990 Amplifier, Tuner CD etc tower - but without any speakers. Output is 2x50W - but the impedence isn't specified. I'm just looking for advice on what...

Anything in the neighborhood of 8-ohms will usually fly safely with standard audio amplifiers. At only 50w x 2 you want efficient speakers. Watch the volume as this amp may clip if driven too hard. THAT will kill any speaker.

This owner had Valdus 200's and was happy. But just about any quality speaker in the 100w range should work out.

Hello, I have a woofer from a set of diamond 8.3 Wharfedale speaker. The woofer sounds like the coild is rubbing and emits a scratching sound. Looking for possible repir solution and the model no. for the...

Hello
The voice coil of your speaker is scratching with its magenet body inside. It can't be repaired. Whatever we do will go in vein. there is no possibility other than replacing this speaker. Some people will recone it, but qulaity cannot be assured. it will sound; but with respect to the other speaker, it won't match. Coil position, resistance, number of turns per unit length ete are determining the magnetic strenth of the coil, and therby sound. Wharfedale eill have its secret, and they wont give it out, as they have gained it with tremndous reserch.
So in my opinion, it will be best for you to replace the damaged speaker with and other one of same type and number. All details will be printed on its body. Buy the original one. Do not compromise. Woofers are the heart of any sound system. Keep this in mind. OK.

Is the tweeter a stand alone 8 ohm speaker?

yes, but it is attached to circuitry that allows only the high frequecies into it. You can replace the speaker with any 8 ohm tweeter without any difficulty, but if there is a capacitor across or in series with the speaker, make sure you put it on you new speaker the same way.

Two 6.5-inch Kevlar woofers and 1-inch silk-dome tweeter per speaker
86 dB sensitivity
20 to 150 watts recommended power (per channel)
6 ohms impedance
30 to 20,000 Hz frequency response

Please rate my answer if this helps.

Many thanks,

Can't get wharfedale melton 2 tweeter to work. Looked inside cabinet and need advice on internal wiring please. These are very old but one works perfectly and the 12'' bass driver on the problem speaker is...

The tweeter has burned out and cannot be salvaged. I also own a pair of (ex) Melton 2s. In the beginning Wharfedale were good at supplying spares (see www.wharfedale.co.uk for contact info and advice). A few years ago after my cat destroyed the 12 inch unit in one, i invested in new insides, including state of the art 12 inch woofers, 4 inch mid range and 1inch tweeters with a good 3 way crossover. The cabinet is great so consider asking a techie friend to do this for you. Please don't just cut out and connect to amp speaker wires! You will get terrible sound and risk ruining both amp and speakers! Best regards Karl ([email protected])

Quite new speakers 9.1 but the sound is very dull - sounds like tweeters are not working can these be repaired

You didn't answer if they ever worked right.

One doesn't usually judge tweeter function visually. They don't actually move much.

Take a cylindrical tube (like from a paper towel) and place it over the tweeter to isolate it from the room sound and the woofer, then place your ear at the other end. Anything? Nothing?

What sort of signal are you feeding them? Let's look (or listen) to the source and how its audio gets to the speakers. Define the electronics, pathing and setup.

Maybe some history. Have you ever tried to blow them up in your enthusiasm for the new rig? If the tweeters are dead, that may have happened. Microphone use and feedback = dead tweeters.
