You might have the option of Defragmenting it as some files might be unorganised and also by freeing some space on thee disk by simply some files and data which yo don't need or might have cloned themselves repeatedly, that is Duplication of a same file or data and/or multiple amount of files. And if you think that you simply don't need the files then in that case simply format it in the respective file system whichever might be compatible,say,cdfs,FAT32,NTFS, and so on.
Yes. All you need is a Seagate SATA 2.5" hard drive. It doesn't matter how many GB it has. If you have the 20GB or 60GB model of PS3 for goodness sake keep it!! That model is backwards compatible and will play PS1 and PS2 games. The 40GB unit does not have this luxury. I hope this helps you. Good luck and happy gaming!!

Hi mithz.
I'm not you people.
(Please keep track of the user who you ask a question too).
When you installed windows 2000, (If you formatted the entire drive during install), you might have taken out the small partition that holds data for a system restore. No version of windows likes
you going backwards. In order for you're system restore CD's to work you'll need to format the hard disk drive. Windows will not install if Windows 2000 is found on the drive. The fastest way to get Windows 2000 off the drive without deleting any other partitions Compaq installed would be to go to the hard disk drives manufacture's site & download their setup tools/utilities. You'll be able to creat a bootable floppy disk that will function in a dos-like mode out side of windows. You'll be able to format the Windows 2000 partition. Once that is done you will be able to incert the restore CD (s) & install Compaqs windows XP.
You may need to pull the drive in order to see who made the drive. EX; Seagate, Smsung, Maxtor ect. Here is the link for Seagate. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools Every manufacture has similar bootable floppy software. Read the instruction provided by the manufacture on how to create the floppy disk & how to run it.
You can use a more sophisticated partitioning and formating software program such as GParted or Acronis Disk Editor. Both programs can create a bootable cdrom that will boot and allow you to delete create and format partitions.
Hi, maybe the easiest way for you to format this drive would be if you could attach it as a secondary drive in a pc that is currently working and then try formatting it in the desired format from within windows. Windows will recognize a drive it only needs to format it in order to access it for data storage. You may need to change the jumper setting to slave on the HDD before you plug it in.
What software did you use for the cloning? Ghost is the preferred method. Be sure to choose a disk to disk clone, not a partition clone. It sounds like you may have created a 20G partition and left 40G unallocated. Partition Magic may also take care of the problem, if you have access to a copy.
