Question about 2wire (1000-400108-001) Router

I have 2wire666 wireless router and I want to start wireless.It works with ethernet cable but it don't work as wireless.How can I set up as wireless.

tried to remove the preferred networks on your computer. its under control panel, under wireless network connection properties.. ^^,

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Its almost impossible to connect a 2wire DSL router with a Cable modem. They dont go hand in hand.
Although you can connect the outgoing ethernet wire from the modem in the last ethernet plug on the back of the router and then have the ethernet connections coming from the router. But not wireless. and if you find a way, contact me at [email protected]

Your ADSL router won't work for that Cable service. You must buy a new router. I have Trendnet router at my home (also it's wireless too) and i had no problems with that router. Working fine. About price, the 54Mbs version is 54$ including shipment

You can do it manually without the CD.
MAke sure that your computer is able to go online
through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the
modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router
ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the
settings of the router according to the ISP.

Connect the Ethernet cable directly to the Ethernet ports on the router. That should work. There may be a setting in the routers configuration to disable wireless if that's what you want.

If you don't know it you can check our list of default router and modem password list here.
If you have changed it and don't remember it you may have to reset your device to factory default using the reset button on most routers.

Dosn't the router come with cables? Connect one computer to the router and see if it works.

If the router is brand new and hasn't been set up yet, it may have open wi-fi working right out of the box without needing a password. In that case, you could use a computer or tablet that has wi-fi, and no need for an ethernet cable.

Hi there,
Setting up the router using a wireless connection may work. You can wire your router to your netbook using an ethernet cable (ethernet cable looks like a phone cable but the connectors are bigger). Check your netbook first if you have an ethernet port.

Wrt400n connects via ethernet cable, but won't talk wireless

you said every thing that connects with the ethernet is working. that means the wired part of the router is working. check the wireless settings of the router. Open the set up page of the router on the main computer. connect the main computer to the router with the ethernet cable.
change the wireless settings of the router.
WRT400N is a dual band router ( 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ)
You can create 2 different wireless networks. Make sure that the names (SSID) will be different for both the networks. For 2.4 GHZ change the standard channel to 6 and save the settings.
Go to wireless security and set the security mode to WPA Personal. set up password for the wireless network. You can use the same password for both the networks. Make sure that the Wireless MAC address is disabled.
Now try to connect to the new wireless network. and see what happens.

With the ethernet cable , it is working, Ok the router wired part is working but the wireless part is not working.
on your laptop , does it say connected to your wireless network ?
If it is not then try to connect to the wireless network .
Make sure that you have the correct wireless settings of the router .

We have just signed up for cable TV/high speed internet/cable telephone. The modem provided is an "Arris" version 1.5. The cable tech said I could connect my Belkin G router so that more than one computer...

Plug the ethernet net cord into the arris ethernet port. plug the other end into the router where it says "internet"

Plug a ethernet cable from one of the router ports to the computer.

First start up the arris modem, then power up the router, then start the computer.

My laptop connects to the router but the internet doesn't always work. The connection is perfect yet most of the time it won't go anywhere. Sometimes if I move the laptop around a few inches it'll work for...

If the laptop is hooked up by ethernet cable and the problem happens when you move the laptop, you either have a bad ethernet cable or a bad ethernet port in your laptop.

Probably the best thing to do in your situation is since you have a wireless router, enable wireless on your laptop and use that instead and work wirelessly.
