The cord ends need to be melted somewhat, then an overhand knot tied to retain both ends. If the cord is breaking along it's length, the cord may not be heavy enough--check with a local saw service shop for the correct cord and buy about 1-meter of length to make sure that you are not reaching the end of the cord when pulling on it. Make sure there is nothing that the cord passes over to damage the cord causing failure. Hope this helps!
