Kodak 5100 no black printing, light on colors

Six months old. Have been through several cartridges. Had to replace black with new cartridge since it was sending almost blank pages through. Will not print black from Documents on computer, but does make a readable (although light) copy when copying a black document. Also makes almost perfect copy on color copying. I changed part of the text to blue color and it printed it, and rest of page was blank. Have removed both cartridges and print head, unplugged, and reinstalled, etc.

    Yep, same problem here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both cartridges and printhead and run multiple cleaning cycles to no avail. From other research I am going to guess that it is a bad printhead. Mine is a refurb and I thought they would have put on a redesigned head, but maybe not.

    Tried Kodak's online chat for support. Never could get connected. They did respond by email. I followed all of the steps they recommended, but it didn't work. Installed new firmware, etc. cleaned the print head, put in new cartridges. Still no or very intermittent black print. I suppose the printhead is toast. How can you get a new print head? This appears to have happened after the printer sat for a while without use. Possible dried up ink in the printhead?

    I have the same problem (printer was bought the end of Dec. 2007) - it was printing A-OK until I changed ink cartridges in late May/beginning June. Have run numerous cleaning cycles (used up at least 1/2 the ink in the cartridges). From what my salesperson told me - it probably won't be covered under warranty; will check back with him when I return from vacation in 10 days.

    My printer won't print black ink. It is only 7 months old!

    I have the same problem with my Kodak 5300. I've replaced the black cartridge 3 times and it still prints very, very light. The second cartridge didn't print at all. I feel I'm replacing the cartridges when they're brand new. Any ideas?

    Nothing but very light printing color and B&W. Have replaced cartridges several times and have tried re-calibrating several times. Need to print a resume - need help!!

    Can't print from black cartridge. This happened with the second cartridge, from when it was first used. The printer is only 3 months old with little use. Will copy, but a grey rather then black. Cleaned the printhead, but that didn't work.

    I wish I had never seen a Kodak printer.

    Over the years I've printed thousands of pages on the HPs I've had and rarely ever had a problem. I bought a Kodak 5100 only because the ink was advertised as being less expensive. I have spent hour after frustrating hour trying to get the printer to work. It's one thing after another. It worked right for only a very short time. Now, I can't get it to print at all. I bought new ink (again) cleaned the printhead, and I've done everything I can think of to get it to print. The printer sounds like it's printing, but the paper comes out blank. I'd sure appreciate some advice on how to get this thing to print correctly and to keep printing.

    My Kodak 5100 is 9 months old and now it will not print in black. When printing photos in black and white it works but with other applications the paper comes out blank.

    All of a sudden, no black and faded black on copy. I reinstalled and updated software and changed the cartridge. Still faded and I am now red.

    My printer is about 8-9 months old. I cannot print anything in black. Before it completely stopped printing I was getting a very light print. The color prints come out wonderful but I need black print to print out my school assignments.

    No black ink printing out will do light colors, have change both inks and still not printing, have updated system and ink holder still nothing. send solution or we can send printer back for a refund.

    Same here but I have had my printer for nearly a year. I was surprised to have no problems getting a new printhead for free. So far I love my printer and have felt the savings on ink was great.

    I have the same problem with my printer. I have replaced the cartridge several times. Its says that the black is full but it does not print in black at all.

    When printing documents prints very light color and no black ink. Will print pictures fine just not documents. have tried all kinds of things to fix and cant seem to figure it out. Ink is full by the way.

    This is the third time the print head has went bad. However the support team has replaced them all and had provided replacement ink and sample 4X6 photo paper. I really hope that they get this problem fixed because I like the printer and the ink is cheap.

    the black seems to be the problem. there is plenty of in in the cartridge. it is faint or streaked. running diagnostics and taking out the print head did not help.

    prints only in a pink color. Have replaced both black and color cartridges. The priner had not been used for an extended period of time.

    when I installed new cartridge in printer nothing happened tells me to put new color cartridge in but printer will copy color but not black and white

Had the same issue... No black ink. Called the # from "Solution #1" guest, 18004216699. Had to patiently go through all the basic trouble shooting stuff like calibration, print head clean, demo print, etc. Once I went through that, they issued me a new print head for free, no shipping charges or anything. Just did this today, but they say I should have the print head in 3 days.

For once, service worked like it should!

The print heads go out frequently(I'm on my third or fourth). The solution is to call Kodak, tell them your printhead isn't working etc etc and have them send a replacement even if you don't need it right away. That way when it goes out, and it will, you don't have to wait three days before you can print anything again.

I think if I have to replace the printhead again, I'll replace the printer. The ink is cheaper by the cartridge, but the cartridge does not last near as long. Not sure it's cheaper, and am sure it's not 50 per cent cheaper as they claim. When it works it's great, but it's getting a short trip to the dumpster when it quits again.

Unable to print at all, both (colour & b&w) RED LEDs are lit

called for help to the # listed in another post, help desk diagnosed my prob as faulty ink cartridges (machine is only 5 months old with a total of 25-30 pages printed), I was promised two replacement cartridges would be mailed to me at no charge at all within 5-7 days, this was yesterday, hope they are good to their word on this otherwise the printer may be making a return trip to the point of purchase ! LOL
I grabbed this item for the sake of cartridge replace price as well, heard of it from a friend who purchased two of them one for his business office and one for his home office, he swears by the items, making me think I am just swearing for no reason ! LOL

Don`t count on the printhead lasting very long.Replaced mine six months ago on a six month old Kodak 5100,Now the repkacenent has gone out.
So basically when i order the print head it will be the third one.Makes no sense I`ve wasted so much money on ink cleaning the nozzles that it is not]has not been cost effective

My problem was also fixed with a new printhead. I called Kodak and they sent a new one at no charge since my printer was only a couple months old. The tech was knowledgeable and helpful to resolve my problem. My printer works great now.

Although, as Kodak printer users, we may have to replace the printer head from time to time, the price of the ink is worth it. I would also rate the service i received from Kodak very highly. Not only did i fix this problem, with the help of fixya, with a easy 5 minute phone call, they are sending me a new print head FREE of charge and a set of new INK cartridges for the inconvenience.

All-in-all, very simple fix!

Kodak 5100 Needs Both Cartridges To Print?

Unfortunately, you cannot used the printer if one of the ink cartridge is empty., compare to the other printers you can print a black text or gray scale if the color is empty or one of the cartridge is empty.

All kodak printers work the same both cartridges should have ink on ink before you can use It.

Ink level will not reset when cartridge is replaced

If you take the cartridge to walgreens, etc... they can clear the chip. There is none for home use

give them a call !

Printer will not print black ink

Seems to be a common fault with Kodak EasyShare 5100/5300

Contact Kodak Support and go though the following tests:

Remove and re-seat Printer Cartridge(s) - Done

Clean Printhead - Done

Calibrate Printer - Test Sheet Not Complete!

Run Computer Colour Test - Done

They will then send you a new Print Head.

Kodak EasyShare 5100 stopped printing in black

1-800-421-6699.. That is the number for Kodak. They will replace your printhead for you. I've been dealing with this same thing. Along with replacing the printhead they are sending black and color ink. All Free! I'm really excited. The people are very friendly and helpful. They know what they're doing. BTW, the replacements should be here in 3-5 days.

Kodak aio 5100 all in one just prints red/pink

An inter active website is being provided by Kodak to help their customer w/ this issue.....Try using and use missing colors for sub class if this does'nt solve the issue call Tech. support. (1 800 421 6699)

Will not print in color

Go to Kodak website,look for support, and repair. Online testing will probably determine that a new printhead is needed and they will probably send you a new one. My printer is only 9 months old and it has same problem.

Kodak EasyShare 5100 won't print

I have had the same frustrating problem.
I cntacted the Kodak live web chat help line and after removing the print head,switching the machine off for 1 min and reconnecting.Clean heads and recalibrate.
.....Still the same.
They then told me the print head was faulty and to contact Kodak for free repalcement.

Very light printing

Call Kodak and tell them you're problems. I was in same boat with new cartridges and still problems. My printer was only 9 month old and printed over 600 pages. I received my new printhead along with brand new cartridges and sample of 4x6 photo paper. However, having problems removing the printhead. New printhead came within 1 business day of calling Kodak!
