Most likely a problem with the reader on the CD/DVD Drive.

Very easy to swap out a different CD/DVD Drive. Add the new device and see if that resolves the issue.

Well a quick check here says it should manage 4 x DVD write speeds:-

The only thing I can think of is that lens may have some dust on it, try a CD lens cleaning disk or a blast of air from an aerosol spray can.

After this, I'm afraid its down a replacement.

Home built PC won't recognize a CD in the DVD players.

Make sure that your DVD drive detected and on the list in Device Manager as LG GH22NP20. If it already on the list, but still have the same problem, ask to the store where you bought that device for changing with the other one.

Dear, you should put out the BIOS cell and put out the Ram from motherboard for 45 min and then keep or fix them same place where as they were working. Your computer read all devices that connected to your computer.

Try updating your drivers from www.hp.com

If the issue is that it won't play DVD movies only then you probably need to install or re-install the DVD player software that should have come with your computer. If you don't have it anymore, simply download from HP.

1. check your system meets the requirements for your device:

• 128 MB RAM (256 MB RAM recommended for video editing)

for DVD authoring and editing
• Video capture: IEEE 1394 interface or analog video capture device
required
• Minimum hard disk space requirements: 1 GB free for included
software installation, 10 GB free for DVD video disc creation (18 GB
free for double layer). Internet connectivity recommended for software
updates
• Operating system compatibility: Microsoft Windows XP/2000
Professional SP4, Windows XP Professional x64 edition, and
Windows Server 2003
2. Have you install the sowftware that came with your device?
3. is your system recognizing the hard drive (go to start>run>type devmgmt.msc and press enter> and look under cd/dvd rom drives... is your device listed? is it showing with a ? unknown device or a ! next to it's name?
a. if the device is not listed chances are you didn't set up the jumper correcly when installing the device or the device may not be powered or there's an issue with the data cable connectd to the device and the motherboard, check your physical setup.
4. check the removable media is in fact compatible with your drive: this is the compatibility list
• Device write media compatibility: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL,
DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW, LightScribe CD-R,

You can get the drivers from the internet via google or yahoo by typing the name and model of your dvd rw and get the drivers.
