Frigidaire dishwasher impeller melted! Can't find replacement part!

Hello,
I have a Frigidaire 18" dishwasher model #FDR252RBS2. The plastic impeller attached to the top of the motor has melted where it attaches to the drive shaft of the motor. In the manufacturer's diagram this impeller does not have a corresponding number to reference it to a part number. I would like to know if it is possible to buy just the plastic impeller? Or do I have to actually buy a new motor (assuming the impeller comes with the motor)? The impeller itself is 3 3/8" wide, flat on the top, and has 1/4" deep fins on the bottom. I really hope you can help me! Thank you!!!

I have the same problem and after talking to a local service center and doing some online research (remember: Google is your friend) I have discovered this is considered a non-serviceable part and you must buy the entire motor. The impeller comes with the motor. This is probably not the answer you were hoping but is what you have to do. With that said, I plan to JB Weld the ****** back on the motor shaft!

I have a Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher with model # GLDB958JB0 and it started to make a screeching noise only after a few mins into the wash cycle. I took out the filter and made sure there was noting...

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem is with the impeller or the chopper assembly that is causing this screeching noise. You can take apart the bottom front access panel and clean the drain pump assembly completely and check for any broken parts inside that need replacement. If the problem returns then replacing the impeller/drain pump-motor assembly is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

The Plastic Dishwasher Flatware Baskets Being ''Eaten/Melted''

Check to see if the electricity supplied to the drying elements is connected at the back of the dishwasher. If so, this would be the hottest spot in the dishwasher during the dry cycle. Most dishwashers have the flatware baskets located on the sides; not the front because of conflict with the detergent holder, or the back because of higher heat or (on newer models) a power scrubbing feature. See if you can put the flatware baskets on the sides. This should help.

In any case, the baskets should not be melting wherever they are located. This could be fire hazard.

Dishwasher is not draining

Hi,

Your dishwasher pump ejects the water. The pump is usually mounted directly to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. You can reach the pump from inside the dishwasher, but first you need to remove the lower rack, the spray arm, and the spray arm support.Look for an impeller--a round plastic fan blade-type of device that spins around. This is the wash impeller, which forces the water through the spray arm. Beneath the wash impeller is the drain impeller, which is similar in size and shape to the wash impeller. The drain impeller pushes the water toward the drain port. These components make up the pump. If any of the pump components are defective, you need to replace them.

Thank you !!

Not Draining

HI. check the following areas for faults.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer/control board
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Burning Frigidaire dishwasher

After you turn off the power to your dishwasher, you can inspect the dishwasher with a flashlight to find where the melting happened. If it is near the circle that is the heating element, you can suspect the timer froze during the drying cycle.

But also open things up and look for shorted/melted wires (in the door panel and under the dishwasher.)

No matter what you find, if you have proof of purchase for your dishwasher, I would press for repair/replacement from the manufacturer.

Good Luck!

Dishwasher had a burning smell and smoke was coming out

If the smoke was coming from inside the dishwasher... A common problem is a plastic item , utensil etc has fallen down onto the heating element. During the drying cycle this could possibly melt the plastic and generate some smoke.
