There should be three screws on this unit to remove the clear plastic hood.

first, remove the dirty water container, there will be one screw there to remove. It should be rather long.

next turn the machine over, there will be 2 more screws under the corners of the front of the machine (you can see the threads through the plastic on the top) remove the two screws.

Now comes the tricky part. Turn the machine back over so that its the right side up again, you will want to pull away from the machine and up, kind of like you are going to bend the plastic up. Once you have that done the entire cover will come off.

Good luck,
Mark

Why did the brushes stop rotating?

Please check two things:
(1) The shutoff switch on the hood is NOT set to OFF for brush speed.
(2) Remove the red filter panel from under the cleaner, behind the brushes, and clean the hair/debris from the screen filter. Squeeze the two panels together, and pull down to remove from the pocket.

Brushes will not turn

(1) Remove the brushes by pulling down at the ends.
Is the square pin present on the top of one brush? It should be approximately 1/4 inch square, and two inches long. That connects the brushes to the drive mechanism.
(2) Assure the manual shutoff on the hood is not set to OFF, for the Brush Speed
(3) Remove and clean the filter screen under the cleaner. This should be a red panel, behind the brushes. Squeeze the two tabs, pull down the panel, and clean the hair/debris off the filter screen.

Have Hoover SteamVac Model F5835-900. Has gunk under the front clear hood where water/debris is lifted from carpet to the tank. Wife wants me to remove clear hood to clean; however the hood cannot come...

There 2 screws on the bottom edge, one on each side, then there is a ***** on top at just beyond the lip of the window. Then it will come off of the machine.
