I have a TX-SR674 with direct tv HD DVR hooked through HDMI. The system has been running fine for 2 years now ... however..now.. Running picture and sound through receiver I am only able to get sound now if I am at any resolution higher than 480p (under 480p I get a picture). I tested cables they are fine -- and DTV DVR picture and sound is fine if I run directly to TV. Is the problem some type of chip in my receiver and can it be fixed or replaced? Has anyone heard of this happening before? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Could be the switch for the HD mode since 480p is ok. Turn the unit off and check the switch inside. It might just need some cleaning.

HDMI flashing screen on Onkyo TX-SR674 receiver need advice on how to solve this problem

Hi Zach, you can try the following reset as this might be a glitch in the processor.

To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings., Thanks, JT

You said you tried hooking the HDMI up directly from the TV to each component, and that worked. How is it usually hooked up - through some kind of switch? I'm not completely understanding your setup here.

Most likelly it is your DVR that has a problem. Their are a lot of issues with those DVR's from the cable or satellite companies. I would recomend swapping it out.

I would suggest to leave your directtv hd/dvr box connected the way It is.
The HD Colorstream 1input on your TV should work just fine.
This TV does not have an HDMI input but you can buy an adapter and connect to DVI/HDCP IN and that might be able to get 1080i video resolution on your TV.
