We have an older (22 years?) 'Insta-Flame (model HE30 TN) natural gas fireplace insert. The pilot light is out, as we painted to inside of the firebox. The instructions show to 1) turn the dial to 'off'', wait 5 minutes ... 2)Turn the dial to 'pilot', push in and light ... 3) Hold the dial in for one minute ... 4) Release the dial and rotate to 'on'. Our problem is: there are now marking on the dial for 'off', 'pilot' or 'on' that show on the dial (due to afing with age?), and we are therefore unable to get the pilot light again. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanx!

On some gas valves the pilot setting is on the same dial as pilot on and on .on others the pilot light has aseperate button on right side of control dial. If yours has this there will be a cut out on cotrol dial that must be aligned with button to allow it to be depressed to light pilot. If yours has this align control dial cutout with pilot button, depress button and light pilot, hold for about one min. and slowly release,if pilot light stays lit, turn down thermostat and rotate control dial normally to right . There should be arrows or marks on dial and gas valve to line up. If pilot light stays lit turn dial to next position and check to see that pilot is still lit. This should be on position, turn up thermostat and burner should light. If your dial has pilot light setting on it then rotate dial to each position, try to depress dial and when you have right one dial will depress allowing you to light pilot. Follow same procedure as above and you should be in business. Hope this helps.Thank you

Gas fireplace will not light up

If it has a pilot light, (website says it does) I suspect its the thermocouple. These are easy to change yourself and cheap, you can buy a universal thermocouple and it will be cheaper than a Napolean one. The end of the thermocouple is a fat copper pin that sits poking into a small pilot flame. The heat of the flame on the copper tells the system that the gas is burning ok so it allows more gas through. But after a few years the copper end gets covered in black charring and this slightly insulates it from the heat, so it signals to turn off the gas.

I want a manual for a insta flame Model ZC 36 RN

I have scanned and uploaded the operating and instructions manual for the ZC 36 series fireplaces. This includes the ZC36-RN model you are asking for (which is the natural gas version with a remote on/off switch), as well as the ZC36-MN, ZC36-MP and ZC36-RP variants.

I have an Insta Flame Canadian Fireplace Manufacturing Inc. gas fireplace, installed in 1990. The problem is that when I light the pilot light, it will ignite, but it will not stay lit when the knob is...

sounds as though you need to get the thermocouple(copper wire that sits in the pilot flame) replaced, check first to make sure it is tight at the gas valve end, as they can loosen over time due to expansion and contraction.

Propane fireplace insert won't light

Gas apliances have safety features built into them so you don't blow yourself up. The pilot heats a thermocoupler which tells the gas valve there is a flame, open the main gas to the burner. If you can see the flame area of the pilot look for a round post about 3/16 inch in diamiter. This should be directly in the flame, if not bend the bracket so it is in one side of the pilot flame. The thermocouple is attached to a mounting bracket. This will be held in place by a 1/4 inch hex screw. remove the screw and the capilary tube leading to the gas control valve. Before you do anything, close the main gas supply to the fireplace and disconnect the power to the fan. You may need to semi dismantle the fireplace to get the thermocouple. The gas valve end is a brass 1/4 pipe thread plug. Turn the outer nut and remove without twisting the tube. Reverse this order to install a new one. Besure not to twist the capilary tube, tighten brass nut 1/4 turn past hand tight. Your better heating supply house will have these in stock. Restarting the pilot will take a few tries because the gas was off. Your gas suplier would charge about $75 to fix this. if you don't have the proper tools and it dosen't look pretty stright forward don't do it. You could get dead.
