I have an older Samsung Digimax 301 digital camera and I recently got updated to Windows 7. My camera's software isn't compatible anymore - is there a download that I can use to update my software so I can still use the camera? Thks.

You don't need the Samsung software.


The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.


Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

although if you're running windows 7, you should be able to goto the Computer icon, and it should display removable device drive (which should be your camera) And you should be able to copy the pictures from there to the hard drive

Your camera is so old and obsolete that there aren't any Windows 7 drivers and never will be.

All you can do is to try and run the existing drivers using the compatibility mode of Windows 7, if that fails then you must either update your camera or find a cheap old basic laptop or pc running an earlier version of Windows. Often you can get them for free on FreeCycle.

Set your windows 7 machine to run in windows XP mode.

Use a card reader instead of your camera.

If it is older software, it is probably not made to run on Vista Operating Systems. I would check the market for something Vista compatible. Samsung might even have updated software on their website for purchase. But you might want to do some bargain hunting around the net first.
Or you could always just connect the camera to the computer and copy the pictures into the "My pictures" folder on your computer. And with Vista's "Windows Image Viewer" (or something of that nature) you can do basic things to the photos, like adjust brightness, contrast, or saturation. You could also crop the photos, and more. The Vista provided image viewer is probably equal to what you could do to photos in the software.

no you wont be able to do that without software, you should have got a cdrom with the camera along with the usb lead. Install the software and follow the instructions, you will then be able to transfer pictures to your pc.

Xp I think does not need software -if you hunt arouns the system Check out Scanner/Camera Wizard. Failing that a search on the web for 'web cam software' could turn up some freeware.
