There is a pin sized hole in the back of it. You can press the button in for 10 seconds to reset the router.

Default username and password is usually

On the back of the router, press and hold the reset button for about 5 seconds.
Then plug a computer into the router and setup the router again, hopefully with a password you'll remember this time.

Need 2 get wireless working dont have a cd port 2 put the cd in... trying 2 get wireless for my xbox and lab top..

You don't need the CD that came with your router to set it up. That usually just has a step by step program but it's just as easy to do manually. Connect the Ethernet cable from your modem into the internet port of your router. then plug you laptop into one of the switch ports using another Ethernet cable. Now on the lab top go to start, run, and type cmd and hit enter. Type ipconfig into the command prompt and hit enter. This will give you your ip address and also the default gateway address, which is the address of the wireless router. Now open your default internet browser and type http://(your default gateway here) for example if your default gateway was 192.168.1.1 you would type http://192.168.1.1 and hit enter. You should see a login prompt now, the default username and password are usually listed on the bottom of the router or in the documentation that came with it. After you login you should see different pages to set up your router you can look through everything but the main things you have to change are the admin password for logging into the router and password protect your wireless network using wpa adding a password for new devices that want to connect to your network. And you can change the ssid, which is what shows up on devices so you know its your network that your connecting to.

My daughter is visiting she has a lab top and cannot connect to the internet, because I cannot remember my network security key. How can I retrive my security key? or how can she gain internet access with...

Hello,

on a computer that is connected to the wireless, press START, then Run, or in the search box, write CMD and hit enter.

in the black window write ipconfig and hit enter. Notice the DEFAULT GATEWAY, it will be 192.168.xxx.xxx

take that number down, then open your internet browser, and write that number with the dots into the address bar and hit enter, you should get on to your router, it will ask for the username and password you have probably set up, if not, use the defaults, read in the manual, most likely admin password or admin and no password and similar simple combinations.

if you can't remember the password or the defaults don't work, there is a reset button on the router when held down long enough will reset the router to factory defaults, note that the name of your network will change back to default, linksys, or similar, whatever brand it is. or possibly Wlan-ap. it will be open for everyone to use, including your neighbors and the occasional drive by laptop. until you set up security again from the routers page.

HOW DO I LOWER MY SECURITY ON MY ROUTER SO I CAN USE MY LAB TOP

If you want to remove the security settings on your router so you can easily connect follow these steps:

1. Login to the router by typing this URL in your web browser: 192.168.1.1

2. It will prompt for a user name and password:

Defaults are: Username: Blank Password: Admin
Note: if you changed the default password then use that one.

3. Once logged in click the Wireless Tab at the top of the screen.

4. Next click on the "Wireless Security Link"

5. Once on this page there is a spot to disable security. Click the disable security button, and then make sure to click "Apply" at the very bottom of the page.

6. Now try and connect with your laptop!

Forgot password to lab top how do i unlock it

Is this a BIOS password or a Windows password? If it's a BIOS password, then you aren't likely to get that removed. If it's a Windows password then use Windows Password Reset. There are other options out there too. If you don't want to deal with it yourself, then you could always contact a computer shop. If it's a BIOS password then you can look here. If you aren't confident in your abilities with electronics then you should not try this yourself.

Got the router without instructions. How do I set it up to work with my lab top and desk top?

first thing you need to know is the default ip/password is 192.168.1.1 with the password being "admin" that will get you into the router im assuming your going wired to the desktop and wireless for the laptop, so first you'll need to hook the router up to the desktop using a cat5 wire from your network card to one of the numbered ports on the back of the router, ok now that you have a connection to the router open up a web browser and in the address bar type in 192.168.1.1, no user name and a password = admin, once your in there click under the wireless settings and enable the wireless network, change the ssid to something you like and can remember, then under the wireless security tab enable the wpa2 security encryption personal works fine then enter a nice password that you can remeber but isnt too easy to guesse, once you have that set up use the laptop to see if you can now see your new network and once you can try and connect to it using the password you just made up, now then if your going wireless all the way your still going to have to wire your desktop to the router for these initial steps once the changes are made then if you have a wireless card for your desktop then you can disconnect the wire and use your wireless card to find the new network and connect to it :) hope this is helpfull

I can't remember exactly what my password is.

try this:

open up a web browser then type in one of the following addresses...just the numbers ie no "www." an ".com"

192.168.1.1 (this is probably it)
192.168.2.1
192.168.0.1

once you get to the routers page, just go into admin mode. You will be prompted for a user name(=admin) and a password(="password"). that should allow you to see what you have your password set as. Hope this helps.

If this helps please rate this as a fixya or helpful.

Kinksys wireless router

You mean wireless security password?

To enable that, do the following steps.

1. Open Internet Explorer and type http://192.1680.1.1 on the address bar
2. It will prompt you for username and password. By default, no username and password is admin. If the default password didn't work, try to type your own password for the router.
3. When you get to the setup page, click on WIRELESS tab on the top. Then click the sub-tab WIRELESS SECURITY under that.
4. Choose WPA-Personal for the Security Mode
5. Type now your desired password on the Shared Key or Passphrase box. Password should have minimum of 8 characters. You should remember that password or write it down.
6. Click on Save Settings at the bottom of the page.

You're all set with new password.
