I have an HP DeskJet 1220C that has been working fine for two years
now. All of a sudden it can only print in pink and black. It is driving
me crazy. I have tried the following without any success:
1. Replaced the cartridges twice 2. Aligned and cleaned the cartridge from the computer 3. Soaked the cartridge head in hot water, and made sure that all three colors will bleed out of the head 4. Cleaned the cartridge contacts with an eraser 5. Cleaned the cartridge contacts on the printer with a brush
If the printer has not been used for awhile, ink may have dried on the heads. Try cleaning the heads a few times. Then see if you can print solid blocks of each color. If they show up but have lines in them the heads will need to be cleaned again until they show solid.
Did you try both cartridges? Sometimes a fried circuit on the color cartridge will cause a out of ink on the black even when the black is new. Double check that you are using the correct cartridge for the printer. and look at the copper/gold contacts in the printer where the cartridge goes. look for dried ink or tears. Clean with a Q-tip dipped in water. CAREFULLY. If it's torn.... enjoy your trip to walmart.
This happens when the connections on the cartridge get old. Especially when you refill or buy non HP Cartridges, try buying brand new hp cartridges and you might be able to get a couple refill out of them before this happens again.
