Mitsubishi WD-73827 73" HDTV DLP TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 10, 2010

I have a 2 year old Mitsubishi WD-73732 - 1080p 73" Medallion Series DLP HDTV - WD73732. I am getting blotches of color when there are large areas of blue color. Looks like irregular moving stains in the picture. this condition is most obvious when picture has large areas of blue i.e. sky etc. I already replaced the bulb. Can this issue be repaired economically?

It will cost you probably in the area of $700.00 to replace the Light Engine. I don't think it would be a good idea to repair it. DLP sets have been out of production a few years now due to high failure rates of the light engines for all makes and models and the consumer cost for the lamp.

Any idea how much more life I can get out of my set? are the new Mitsubishi models any more dependable?

Mitsubishi is dabbling in laser technology with there sets at this time and are way to expensive. Please dont be the new kid on the block. I repair these sets as my profession. I recommend the Samsung LED or the Sharp LED version. Not the older LCD. Make sure you get the 120hz version, not the 60hz. You could get the 240hz but not worth the extra money. You wont see the difference in fast action movies. Just stay away from the 60hz versions. These are the first generation LCD's even though they will be cheap. Dont do it !!!!!!

Play it until it's to unbearable to watch. The more you play it the worse it wil get. Maybe 6 mos.

White dots on screen

I developed white spots on the screen of my Mitsubishi WD-57734 in increasing numbers over days and weeks. I called a repair service who quoted me $1500 to replace the light engine. He suggested I call Mitsubishi Customer relations at 800-332-2119 option 5 which i did. To make a long story short after several conversations with them they agreed to replace the part for free if I picked up the labor (Would have been less conversations if I had the original purchase receipt). Instead of $1500 I paid $250. The tv was only 3.5 years old. Perseverance paid off.

WD73732 TV-picture seems to have a "glow" or light shine especially when viewed at night. For example, faces show a glow on forehead, cheeks, nose. It is getting progressively worse. TheTV is...

You need to clean the mirror inside the television and maybe even the optics of the light engine. The dust is building up and the light cannot reflect cleanly off of the mirror.

How do you do a convergence on the wd73286?

Hi,
Mitsubishi WD-73286 is DLP tv that does not have any convergence circuit inside.
Convergence is required in old model rear projection tv that has three basic colors picture tubes to generate color picture that projected on front screen of tv.
DLP tv has light engine to generate picture, it is similar to multimedia projector that throws its picture on wall.
Hope this info will help.
Thanks.

Mitsubishi 1080p 73'' DLP HDTV - Color distortion

This would be the little sensor on the light wheel. Its cheap, you can get them online for around $2. You will need to take the light engine out and remove the color wheel cover and remove the color wheel and then remove the sensor. You will have to desolder the sensor and remove it to replace with the new one.
What is happening is the sensor is overheating and not tracking the color wheel properly there for the colors get messed up. Once you replace the sensor the tv should work like normal. The part is
(Sharp GP2S40 Photointerrupter). It is very difficult to find because they are not made anymore. Most major online part stores do not carry them but I found a lot of them at Wright Hobbies. Good luck.
